Whilst on the subject of tires, picture you this: you are on one of the superb Highlands and Islands holidays with Porsche Club. You experience a severe blow-out, sufficient to negate any use of the pathetic tire repair outfit provided with your Cayman. So what do you do? Reach for the mobile to ring Porsche Assistance? Forget it, no signal
No signal, no tire, Bad Luck. Even if you had a signal (something I cannot always get in my part of civilization), it would still take Porsche Assistance over a day to get to you in the Outer Isles.
So what is the solution? Buy Option 447; the Cayman Space Saver.
Carry it only when the threat is high. Carry it securely strapped to the top of the engine cover. Purchase a cheap jack and brace from Halfords. Carry too a Stanley knife to cut off the shredded old tire (as it is possibly too difficult to fit a rear wheel & tire in the car) and don't forget that pair of gloves and bin liner for the old wheel.
Cost of Option 447? Guess.... Not cheap at £508.59, but it might prevent an otherwise ruined day and a very long walk. Moreover, it can be kept for your next Porsche
