Optimax or Ultimate

I ran my old 996 C4 ON Optimax and still run my lady's 944 S2 and my new 997 C2S on it. Shell stations are not as numerous in the wild west country were we live and wondered what comments any of you had on BP's Ultimate as an alternative. I noticed the exhausts pipes on both the C4 and C2s get quite a black (carbon ?) deposit with Optimax but the fuel economy and performance are excellent. Is there an official line on Ultimate ?

The 97 RON takes the edge of the throttle very slightly but I only tried it twice when I couldnt get Optimax. Not surprising as the ECU's knock control changes the timing. I notice the difference more on the 997 than I did on my Boxster S and ended up using 97 RON most of the time on the Box.
