Opinions/Advice - Reverse parking sensors

Hi, I am conidering fitting a set of parking sensors to the S2 (Primarily for when she who shall be obeyed drives! (I will deny saying that))

1. As anyone fitted them? if so where, through the rubber, back panel or wherever?
2. What is the general opinion of them?
3. I am still in two minds, but if I proceed, I really do not want them to look like an after market add-on.

Would be interested in hearing peoples thoughts, I have a spare rear bumper in primer which I am happy to experiment with.

Thanks

Stu

A look I like the look of is the rear bumper with the rubber strip completely removed. This would provide you with a nice flat surface to mount your sensors. I've been looking at kits for the Focus as the wife is picking up a good collections of dings and scratches and with the decent kits you can spray the surface of the sensor to match the cars colour. I think this would be the best way from an aesthetic point of view. I cant think that mounting them on the rubber strip would look good. I suppose if you found some pods to mount the sensors into you could mount between the slot of the under bumper spoiler like they are mounted on an X5, but it would look like an aftermarket add on and they would probably be too low.

I am interested in your question, as I have a set of sensors which I am about to install. I have not yet decided whether to drill through the rubber, and have concerns about what lies behind? The sensors I have come with a hole drill, and the sensors are black and will fit flush with the bumper, also the height is right.

Without wanting to sound facetious, why would you need reversing sensors on what is essentially a hatcback? You can see whats behind you by looking through that big, see-through thing which convieniently has a large rubber spoiler which tells you where the car stops....

I'd advise against drilling through rubber. You'll never get a nice clean hole, and in anycase depending upon how the sensors fix into the bumper they may need a relatively thin wall for expanding spring-loaded bayonets to clip behind to secure the sensors. That rubber strip has got to be half an inch thick.
