Hi guys,

Has anyone got handy pics or PDF of a recent official Porsche centre parts catalog - with pics and item codes?

I did find several around the internet from Googling, but they seemed to be all for either automatics or left hand drive (USA) makes :(
I did ring the OPC but they said they cannot give these out to customers but offered to take screen shots and send via email - that's a lot of damn screenshots!

The transmission section is of most interest as that's what I need specific parts for, and needs to be for 1982-5 manual transmission 944 :)

Automatic only??? I have lots of PET .pdf files downloaded on various machines, with several older series one 944 versions. What is it that youre looking for? Im sure that I will have one that I can email to you.

Yea it is [&:] (I spent ages last night printing out each of the transmission pages to take down to my garage so he could show me exactly which parts I needed - I felt a right berk when he looked through them all and said 'this is all automatic!') Specifically I'm needing pics of the gearbox linkage and part numbers that goes to the top of the gearbox (several 'knuckles' I believe) - this is to fix a very waggly gear stick! Already tried replacing the joint rod but to no joy. I've emailed OPC again and they've agreed to take screenshot and send me, but I'm not sure he knew what I was on about. Really need to get this ordered today though you see. Otherwise it's very handy to have genearlly as I'm always needing little bits here and there. (Aren't we all!) Thanks so far Simon!
 
Hi Outrun I have one for the early car, manual trans (know its early car - 2 gearbox mounts) if you have a"proper" email address NB all the 'boxes have the same linkage I have a 'box in the garage

The usual problem with the sloppy change is wear in the plastic bit, ringed in the centre of the pic. The other ring is around the adjuster - just put it n the middle not like this is!

The plastic cross bit is not numbered, its between the 4 number 21s Hope this helps ( can send the full PET still if you want)
 
Mike you're an absolute star and diamond!! Thank you so much, especially taking the time to take pics, edit and upload - I'm sure we'll meet one day and I'll be buying you a few pints!! I guess the question really is then whether the OPC will sell the 'plastic bit' on its own or all the bits of that section (including the "intermediate shift lever") as one part - I'll get an answer Monday from them I'm sure. I suppose it might be better to get all the bits, although I'm not sure what my garage is expecting me to get for them. Many thanks, Al ps .... I do have the same PDF but was looking in the "Main Group 3 : Transmission" section and didn't realise/think that this would be in the "Hand lever system" section!! Well ... I suppose when you think about it the name does give it away somewhat! Hand lever system? Errmm GEARSTICK please!! haha!
 
I don't think the plastic bit is available on its own as it has no part no. It is possible to shim the holes (Ali drinks can!) as a temp repair. Also if you can't get piece of can in, the problem is not there. I found (twice) that the horizontal shaft on the hand lever gets badly worn and is the main offender.
 
Hi Mike Thanks for the reply. OPC isn't sure but they think the 'plastic bit' does come with the intermediate shift lever (part 18) - £108.57 though! OUCH! Anyway, on Clarks Garage link it talks about looking at the main shift lever on the gear stick also or first in fact. My mechanic is convinced it should be the intermediate shift lever at the back on the top of the gearbox. In your opinion, or anyone elses, the gear stick is *really* flappy - I mean you can seriously waggle it quite far left and right .... would this really be coming from the back on the worn plastic/intermediate gear lever? eg this YouTube video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbUXlyTNMWE This is what I believe roughly my mechanic saw ... it makes sense it could cause sloppy gear change and vibration, but not the serious play I'm getting to my mind? I would have thought it would be around the gear stick, not all that way back ... I've been very wrong before tho [:D]
 
I can agree the plastic parts from the rear linkage are not readily available and you have to buy the whole linkage did mine last year it cost around £120 I believe and the gear stick still waggles around, so be careful what you wish for as I replaced the front linkage and rear and the gear stick still moves from side to side. Maybe the next thing I replace is the sound deadening stuff under the gear linkage whch may hold it more steady.

Blimey! Really? Oh dear! Did you try the joint rod also that connects just before the intermediate shift lever? It's part #29 on the above - it only costs £8 (how the shift level costs £100 extra I do not know!!!) I did on mine first, but it made no difference but I was told that can be a common cause - and cause of the cheap price of the part worth trying first. Out of interest, how much or how far can you waggle your gear stick? Before and after the work done?
 
I think this subject wants moderating-it's getting personal[:)] However,regarding the e-bay 924S,it came with a very very stiff gearchange,nothing like the slick change on our other 924S-After copious amounts of WD 40 plus oil aerosols were applied to the dreaded rear gearchange joints,it has now freed up & there seems little "loose " movement-I presume the main stiffness came from the plastic knuckle joint-sometimes plastics do "grow" rather than wear away-anyway at 86K miles I find it quite acceptable
 
You have checked the easy bits first haven't youo? Part 10 above is a major culprit for a "waggely" stick, breaks up under Part 9 and the broken parts just sit there and stick becomes very loose. And that part will cost you under £4 (if they try to charge you more phone Newcastle OPC!) Change that, check that there isn't excessive wear on the pin that goes through the linkage and if its still loose you know its the main linkage bush and you've only spent £4 and half an hour to be sure you need to spend more
 
Any chance of driving it down to Leicester? I've had a bit of experience with the gearbox and linkage. One I improved by taking some trapped foam from under the hand lever mount! The main problems are the horizontal bush and balljoint on the hand lever and the plastic cross bit.

Great thread, my stick is slack and loose too. found this website with good photos: http://944foot2thefloor.blogspot.com/2010/06/how-to-remove-and-replace-worn-gear.html he reckons the new shifter is about £25 from an OPC, so will take a look at mine at the weekend and order up a new lever and bearing if that's the issue
