oops car is dead as a do do not even a click

Oh dear ! , immobiliser removed yesterday leavijng the car running perfectly. I have started the car several times since
(yesterday) with no problem. Now it would be very easy to say the mobile spark man has done something wrong BUT the immobiliser did not stop the starter motor solonoid clicking even when the car was previously immobilised.

Now I dont even have a 'click' . I should add I have the car on a set of jump leads now its not a flat battery. I have tidied up the battery earth too as it was looking poor.

So question is how do i fault find this. The only things working on the whole car are the interior curtesy light and the hazards !
which of course are supposed to work with the ignition off this does make me rather suspicous something on the ignition is not as should be. At the moment I'm stumped and have called the RAC since I do pay membership

Turn the key no click, dials don't even flicker , no headlights , no solonoid click etc.

Regards Mas

Sounds like battery/earth problems rather than anything he's done. Check voltages on the post inside engine bay.

Where is that famous post exactly :)
And how do i grt to the module. I wouldnt mind but it ran yestutday afternoon !

Your car doesnt have it Lee. Only cars which have a microswitch-type hatch lock have this, to enable you to energise the system and undo the hatch. Pre 1989 cars dont need the underbonnet connector as they have a mechanical hatch lock.

For people whose cars will have this feature, its a blue capped post under the drivers side windscreen, connected to the firewall. Dont try to jump start your car using it, because thats not what its for and the car will set on fire!

Well here comes the answer !

I don't believe in co incidence as they are very rare indeed. However as mentioned the car wasn't that dead even 'with' the immobiliser so I was 'perplexed'. I called the spark who said it couldn't be anything he'd done ( suprise), I only re joined two connections which had been cut in to. mmm If I call him out he's just going to tell me its something else and charge me another 50 quid.

As I have Homestart so I called the RAC. I was hoping its the man who lives in my village because he's a good egg and he'll go the extra mile for a fellow villager anyway and at least try. He is impressed that I've tried jump start , fuses, meter on the battery to earth etc but I'm the first to admit that I don't really know much abouta cars wiring past the obvious.

I told him straight that a sparky had removed an immobiliser and after basic checks , I showed him that the sparky was fiddling around under the passenger footwell and had mentioned restoring a connection in there.

The RAC man after several other things , lifts up my fuse board and then says ' try now ' vrooom away we go. One of the large plastic connectors that plugs on to the bottom of the fuse board had come off as the clip had snapped off one side of it. This just happens to be the one that had a bypass wire cut in to it. The only way the RAC man could secure it was with a very long cable tie right round the fuse board but its now in tight awaiting a new connector when I fancy the job :p

In a way I don't blame the Spark because it might be that he removed it did the wire plugged it back in and didnt know the little plastic lug had snapped off , however the spark was too quick to insist ' it couldn't be anything I've done' and he could have been a bit up front and offered to come round and check without charging me ?. I think in that situation I would have done to keep a customer.

Back to finding the source of the fumes now which I am now sure are exhaust but boot and lights sealing hasnt cured it []

Mas what is the inner rubber gaiter like underneath your leather gear lever gaiter? This can be a cause of fumes if it is in poor condition or even missing.

No idea m8ee but illsure look. Ineed to try everything anyone can suggest and get to the bottom of this. can i check it just from the top ie pull the gator plate off and look down ? . Ill gaffer tape the sunroof too i think.

Mas

Yep unclip the plastic surround from the base and the leather gaiter will lift up with it. Should be no need to remove the gear knob. That will give you enough access to check it. Good idea about the gaffer tape. Try one thing at a time until it sods off!!
