When I bought my Macan as a daily driver, the OPC informed me that the car might need more regular oil services if it is often used for shorter journeys and so it has proved. I am now into my third year of ownership, having covered circa. 17k miles, and have had an oil service, followed by a full service with oil a year later, and I'm scheduled to have another interim oil service - it is working out the car needs new oil yearly, and the timescale does not relate to predicted milage.
My understanding is the car's computer states it needs a service (oil or regular) based on how it is driven and journey style in conjunction with calendar guidance. The computer provides a day and mileage when the service needs to be done by - which ever comes first.
With my Macan and previous cars of different marques that have had the service indicator function, the potential milage has never related to a proposed timescale. Indeed, my experience of daily drivers of other marques that proport to require servicing every 24 months, is that they have inevitably required servicing after 18 months - the sensors and computer in the car tend to be reliable in knowing what the car needs.
in contrast, my 986 and 997 don't have built in service indicators, they don't do a lot of miles and are serviced on the big service/small service schedule every two years - much simpler!
