Oil Pressure Relief Valves

I am rebuilding an 86 Turbo block that came without the OPRV. The originals were 3 piece I think and the one out of my 88 block defo doesn't fit because of a sleeve that is fitted to the block. Clark's states you always replace with newer type but as far as I can see there are 2 tpyes of single piece construction - 86 and 87 onwards. Elliot only has 87 onwards blocks so perhaps no luck there. Question is - is the guide sleeeve in the block removeable? If it is will any later OPRV fit? Sorry a bit specialist I know but I think there are a few out there who may know [;)]
 
IIRC the Porsche manual covers this and yes the guide is removable, I believe it involves the simple practise of using grips to remove the guide but would advise to check first, I don't have my manual handy right now but may be able to check it later tomorrow. I may just reuse the original old type OPRV when I get to that stage in my rebuild, it seems in good condition and was certainly working well when the engine was removed from the car, plus a new one is very expensive, far to high for what it is IMHO.

My thoughts exactly Pete a lot of cash for nowt really and I had you in mind as I know yours is an earlier Turbo. The differneces I have found so far are the OPRV although PET states that the oil filter manifold is the same. 86 engine has a manual tensioner for the cambelt and the sump has an oil level indicator post 86. I may well transpose the sump from the 88 lump as it looks identical in every other way. Other than that newer water pumps have a bigger idler roller for the cambelt and a guide rail but are fully interchangeable and the belt remains the same.
 
Yes I see now Pete from my manual. Basically it says remove with mole grips but it does not say if when removed that a later valve will fit??
