Oil leak source found!

Had my Cam cover gasket done when the car was in at TWG Peterborough in June for its service/MoT/Sills to cure an annoying oil leak onto the exhaust. after a few days the leak came back and got steadily worse.

On a drunken Sunday afternoon a mate and I fashioned a piece of metal to take the drips beyond the exhaust to reduce the smoke, which was great when I started my new job and needed to be in Bracknell for a few days.

Put the car back into TWG for the Cambelt re-tension and told them about the leak (also told them to look at the leak prior to doing the cambelt, but did they listen?)
They agreed that that the cam cover gasket was the issue and they offered to do it FOC.

They then called me when the car was due to be finished to say that the wheel bearing change I had also asked for was done, but when they had tested the car after changing the gasket it was still leaking......on closer inspection they discovered a hairline crack in the cam cover!

They have managed to source a secondhand Cam cover for £60+delivery and got it all sorted today so I can pick it up in the morning

Looking forward to having a smooth, non-smoky car at last! (I am at Heathrow one day and Bracknell 2 days next week)

Why do I always have the issues that either 'never happen' or 'I've never seen that before in all my years in the trade'??

Albert nice to hear from you again. Sorry to hear the car is still redish. Glad your leak is sorted. Just wanted to ask who are TWG Peterborough and what can they do if I ever need their services?

TWG are an independant Porsche, BMW & Mercedes specialist, although Primarily Porsche.

They have a lot of experience with the front engined cars and also have access to a fastidious Bodyshop who can sort 944 Sills out!

Going to pick it up this morning, can't wait!

I am not sure who TWG use, but my sills were done in a very similar way with the line of hammerite at the bottom, so wonder if it was the same person?

Anyway got my car, had a little haggling over the price with TWG due to the cracked cam cover not being part of their promise to do the work foc, but came to an agreement in the end (still smarted at the wallet though!)

Car is sooo much smoother and quieter with the new wheel bearing, you forget how much they resonate through the shell, just got a slight wobble from the tyres now, will see if it settles down this week now they are going straight, if not will get them re-balanced

New rubber and a and balancing made a big difference to the wobble on mine. Mind you the tyres that came off where ten years old. A great advert for using you 944 regularly and not wheeling it out for a polish every sunday. Not long after I got a 4 wheel alignment done and it's pretty sorted now at least with stock equipment [:)]
