My 1983 2.5 Lux has been garaged for the last 6 years and only started very occasionally, when I started her up recently I could smell burning oil in the exhaust fumes, its not making clouds of smoke but there is a definite smell of burnt oil, I seem to remember that 6 years ago when last on the road she would kick out a little blue smoke when revved hard through the gears, a friend told me it was visible at gear changes as I accelerated away from him, my question is could I be looking at worn valve guides?, if so how much are these to have replaced?, could it be stuck oil rings as the car has only run in the garage for a total of a couple of hours over the last 6 years or could I be looking at worn bores? (engine has done 108k, the last 38k in my ownership with regular oil changes), in short what is the most common cause of oil burning with the 2.5 8v?.
PS I dont intend to start the engine again until I have replaced the belts due to the belts age (10yrs).
