Odometer specialists?

The odometer (and trip odometer) has stopped on my ’83 944. I had the same issue with my last Porsche, a 1994 968 Sport, too. I managed to fix the 968 with a new cog, and recall it was quite easy to do. The issue I’m having with the 944 is actually getting into the earlier-style speedo unit. The crimping around the back of the binnacle is unbelievably tight, and even my super-mechanically proficient neighbour can’t get into it. It’s seven years since the 968 repair so my memory of the job is hazy, but the later-style speedo must’ve been relatively simple to open. Anyway, I think I need to send it off. I appreciate that the question’s been asked before, but as businesses come and go, I’d be grateful for recommendations from relatively recent repairs please.

I think you’ll have to ‘un-crimp’ the crimping, even though it may mis-shape it.
Only way to get into it.

My wife's 1986 924S has the same problem-can anyone confirm that the 23 T pinion is the one to buy or do you have to take it all apart 1st to confirm the No of teeth?
Then who is the best supplier?

Julian Reap is based in South Harrow (north London), which may be a distance from you, I believe, Vitesse. So probs investigate inside first, then contact or send it to him?
He always has a supply of various cogs etc - gets them largely from the US I think.

As I am closer, he sorted my 993 odo a while back, while I waited.
I repaired my own 924 odometer years ago...

Just an update to my original post: I ended up sending my speedometer to JDO Instruments in Keighley, in December last year (2024). The turnaround was super-quick and, almost six months later, the odometer's still working fine.
It cost me £135 including return delivery, which I consider reasonable.

Will be fixing my odometer on my 1990 944 Turbo as it has stopped working since being off the road during the restoration. £40 for a tiny plastic gear is daylight robbery, equivalent gears for non-Porsche cars are around £10. I loathe paying these vultures but looks like there is no alternative. I'm going to attempt the job myself but already bookmarked JDO instruments website in case I want to hand it over to the professionals.
