Report back from the day!
It was very cold , anytime spent out of the car was best spent in the Jackie Stewart pavilion adjoining the pits , keeping hands firmly in pockets so that fingers continued to work [

]
There were less than 25 cars participating , of which 4 were Porsches , my 911E was the oldest followed by a real RS , a 3.2 Clubsport and a GT3 Mk 2 .There were a similar number of very historic looking Jaguars , early 1950's vintage, and 2 or 3 GT40 replicas....not all in good running order [

] . Photoshoot at end did feature my car in the line-up , Mark Hales commented on the moth-eaten upholstery of the rear seats ( well they are never used! )
Hero of the day was probably the GP Connaught driver , seated with legs either side of the gearbox and a lonely clutch pedal on the right....parts of him must have got very warm , not a good car to be lined up behind in the pit lane as
1 it had to be jacked up at back on a trestle and a starter gun shoved in the front for several attempts with back wheels spinning in air
2 it was fuelled on methanol and long blue flames were spat backwards if the engine chose to fire
Villain of the day was the mechanic who totalled the owners historic jag racer in what appeared to be a head-on with tyre wall , Lavant straight , during a period when sporadic rain was making track greasy. I was out in same session and had just been overtaken by it after Madgwick....fortune favours the cowardly...
Anyway , really enjoyed the day , Goodwood appears to suit the early 911 , my car was good in the hands of my instructor Ian , who had more confidence in the handling than I did , but I will learn how to drive smoothly , honest.
The worse bit of it all was driving home to central London in the dark and the wet....I couldn't really see where I was going and one of the wiper blades detached itself ( driver side of course ) . Makes it more of an adventure I suppose after the boredom of a modern car ...[
