Nice 944 on Pistonheads

Given the mileage and the condition 7k seems a sensible start point. There are quite a few S2s being advertised for 6-6.5k with around 100k on the clock (don't know if they are selling at that) so it is not over priced. I would, however remove the Nurburgring sticker as I don't think that adds value[;)][;)][;)]

I reckon so, if it's genuine. The desciption seems a bit light-weight though, so it would need a thorough check over.

Agreed, it's a crap advert. No mention of the detailed history, whether the sunroof bag, compressor and toolkit are present (all of which indicate a cared-for car) or details of the "bits that need doing".

You would no doubt find that stuff out for yourself if you were contemplating spending 7k on a 944, but still.....

It IS a crap advert alright. I also saw the Nurburgring sticker & had the same thoughts! While the mileage is smashing & the car appears good, I just don't think the demand is there for the car at that price. I think only one of us guys on the forum who appreciate the cars would countenance spending that much on a 944. As has been discussed numerous times in the past, these cars are underappreciated; great for a buyer, not for a seller.

Saying that, after I've got mine back to tip top, I reckon it will have cost me c. £6k overall.

That's the key - there are very few buyers in the market he's aiming at. I looked hard for a 944 just recently, and I had budgeted £7000 as an absolute maximum for the car and anything that needed doing, realistically meaning the maximum I would have paid for the car itself would have been £5.5k. Whilst there is some crap out there, there are also nice cars a lot cheaper giving you a bit of a buffer for the inevitable fiddling and tinkering that comes with buying a car of this age.

Good luck to him, but I'm not sure any standard 944 is worth that amount of money, when there are so many available for much less. I bet if you bought it and lost it, the insurance wouldn't dream of giving £7k for it, put it that way.

I dread to think how much mine owes me[8|]....then again I think you just own one to enjoy it and pay as you go along.

A good low miles car is worth a premium, you only need one buyer after all. There is a big price difference betweem luxes and S2s,turbos and then turbo cabs, good straight cars are harder to find as every year passes and i reckon we should talk values up not down, whilst being realistic at the same time.

If you are in the market for a good S2, you are going to be hard pressed to find one with that mileage (I would rather go on condition and service history but many see mileage as the be/all end all) and what apears to be good condition at much below 6k.

Values of 44S2s seem to be steadying a little as do turbos; I agree with Mark values should be being talked up as good ones are getting thin on the ground. I have been looking for an S2 for a friend for a while now and given a little hagling I would be interested in the guards red car, except that is the one colour my friend does not want. As long as the service history is good and you got it for 6.5K it could be an excellent daily car with far less depreciation than spending the same on a Mondeo or the like. (and how much more fun is a 944[:)][:)][:)])

You're right there. There are plenty of cheaper cars around to run but not many that are such fun. And, at the end of the day, the cost to keep our cars running usually work out as less/equal to the depreciation hit on a newer car.

I also think the owners community (like this forum) add to the fun of owning a 944 (or any other classic for that matter).

Borderline not enough miles IMO - sitting around is worse than regular use and garage queens don't always get serviced as much as they should. Worst exterior colour also IMO (and definitely not a good one for value before all you Guards pink fans get upset), but grey leather is good (though it is just facings not "full leather" which I think I've seen only once). A/C in an S2 is rare but does it work and if so for how long? I don't see anything wrong with the driver's door. I think £7k is a fair starting point TBH and I'm normally hard on values - certainly in metallic black, Titanium, Cobalt etc. I think it would be about right. I'd want to check the history pretty thoroughly to make sure the milage looked genuine and it had been serviced if not used. As cossetted as it should be at that I'd be looking for a big folder of invoices, service stamps and every old MoT to verify provenance.

Nothing wrong with Guards red although actually mine has gone a bit pink at the front but the stone chips hide most of it at least[:D]

Good point![;)]

That's lovely, and a good price. If I was still looking, I'd have that. Some clear indicators would suit it no end, IMHO.

Funny you should say that I was just looking at clear front s and side repeaters the other day.

PS thanks for the kind words
