Good afternoon.

Brand new to Porsche ownership, picked up 944 Lux (85) with 81k on the clock. Must admit I had a beer when I said yes but no regrets. Slowly sorting through gremlins (minor).

Service parts, oils/filters etc, belts done prior my ownership.

Front calipers rebuilt, braided lines, new radiator and set of boots 205/55/15 on cookie cutters.

Gradualy building up the distance/speed as she had been sitting around for a while. Only leak i've noted is at the rear of the rocker box (£2 cork gasket ordered).

Live outside New Romney Kent, hoping to find a monthly/regular meetings nearby.

Spoke to really helpful guy Richard Marsden who will supply pair of clear indicator lenses as I start to tidy up the exterior.

Please be warned I will be asking stupid questions as I get around to jobs on the car.

Take care and look forward to meetings in the near future.

Ta Andy

a warm welcome and sure someone from the kent area will be along soon,,i will be moving to kent within the next 18 mths/2 years,,hope you enjoy the 944,,are you aware the last time the cambelt/water pump etc were changed,,its usually 4 years or 40k miles whatever comes first, this is one of the most important jobs so it might be a good idea to find out last change,,good luck,,jasonp

Stupid questions always answered, you will be forgiven being a first time 944 owner....................welcome to the forum.

Yes indeed: anything other than how to fit silly wheels, steering wheels or other tat intended to try to make it look 'more moderner'. [:D]

Take care that you do not strip the thread when you change the famous Hippo seal. When you get the housing off the back of the cam tower (944s are ohc and strictly speaking do not have a rocker box; the cam tower houses the 8 sliding tappets and the camshaft and is more like a machined from solid block ) you will see straight away why it is nicknamed a hippo seal

Thanks for your welcome and tips. Simon, I have no intention of forking out for silly wheels, keeping the rolling resto on a reasonable budget and getting my hands as dirty as possible. Planet Rock on the radio, tea/beer on the go with spanner in hand (therapy). The interior is a lovely brown pin stripe affair, it is growing on me, I don't think you can get silly steering wheels in brown but it does need a refurb as stitching has come away - any recomendations ? John, thanks for advice on Cam Cover. Haynes manual not very helfull, advises to contact main dealer LOL as apparently beyond realm of home hobby/bodger/mechanic. I havn't given it a close inspection yet but can i remove it without disturbing belt/pulley system ? Please all have a Virtual Tipple on me and drive safe !
