PSM - Porsche Stability Management - worth having, for those greasy roundabout moments. Boxster handling is very good and a lot of people get complacent with the high grip levels, PSM can't defy the laws of physics but it can save your trousers [
PSM uses a series of sensors to monitor direction, speed, yaw velocity and lateral acceleration. PSM then uses the sensor readings to calculate the actual direction of vehicle travel. The system can reduce understeer caused by sudden steering inputs when changing lanes or negociating a rapid sequence of bends, as well as mitigate understeer encountered when entering a corner at speed, especially in low-grip conditions. PSM applies selective braking on individual wheels to help keep the car on the desired cornering line. If braking alone isn't enough to maitain control, PSM then utilises the engine management system to control engine output in order to stabilize the handling. A PSM indicator on the instrument cluster displays the systems presence. Of course, PSM can be switched off and is re-activated by braking.
PCM = Porsche Communication Management
Porsche did/do 2 systems, the earlier system called PCM from 1998 and the later from 2001 onwards called PCM2. Porsche communication Management controlled both the Satellite navigation and the car audio system. PCM came linked with Bose sound and optional phone facility.
