New to Porsche, Boxster 987 60K on the clock, throttle response

Hi
I have to acquired a 987 Boxster with 2.7 auto tiptronic gearbox. I find the throttle response feels a bit slow/sluggish for me especially with the kick down, is this normal? Should I be switching to manual to get a better response?

TIA for any advice

Hi Gavin,

Just to point out that the Tiptronic is a traditional torque converter transmission rather than dual-clutch and so the gear changes and associated throttle mapping are unlikely to be quite so crisp compared with the PDK transmission.

I have a manual 987.2 CS and have no complaints about the throttle response but unfortunately can’t comment as to whether or not it’s superior to your car’s Tiptronic transmission. I think the only way you’ll find out is to test drive a car with manual transmission.

I'm also new to Boxster 987.1 My car has to stay outside this winter, about 10 metres from the nearest (garage, indoor) 13amp socket. What's the safest way to connect the car to the CTEK charger - a waterproof extension lead from the garage to the car with the charger in the frunk (or in the car if plugged into the cigar lighter)? Or one or more CTEK extensions across the drive, with charger in the garage? Grateful for advice.

I would opt for charger in garage that way you know if it is charged all the time ,just shield the cables in some sort of trunking .

Try ... How to reset tip transmission on 986 - Page 1 - Porsche General - PistonHeads UK

Disconnect the battery for 20 or so seconds, that will clear the adaption values in the cu. If you don't want to disconnect battery, the Tip ecu is in the rear boot, on the firewall next to the DME, just unplug it for a bit!

All the auto-boxes that I have had (BMW Alpina V8 - BMW X3 - VW Touareg - Cayman PDK) have responded well to a prolonged `enthusiastic` drive :p

If you connect direct to the battery terminals (I prefer the permanent ring terminals NOT croc clips) the cable will feed under the bonnet by the washer jet (assuming that 987 is similar to 981)

I have used a CTEK with extension in external Winter conditions just fine, placed a bucket over the charger unit and taped over the joint of the extension connector. The CTEK unit is rated IP65 which gives it inherent protection against water - moisture

An IP65 Rating means the product has the highest level of dust protection, and is able to withstand low-pressure water jets from all directions

As already mentioned, the car may have been driven by a nun in its former life so needs taking out giving a damned good thrashing to wake the gearbox up.😁
