Hi everyone. Ready to pull the trigger on a 987 Gen1 Cayman. Lots of research done but curious to see people’s view on this car being advertised. Happy with a 2.7 as this is ample for me (first sports car). Do people recommend paying for a pre-purchase inspection..?

A pre purchase inspection is added peace of mind, saved me buying a 997 C4S with bore scoring on cylinders 5 and 6. Bore scoping isn't always part of a PPI and I am not sure of the prevalence of internal engine wear on the Cayman engine, but if it's a concern then it is certainly worth checking.

 
Having quickly read through their description and specifications there is some confusion: they say it has “PSM (adjustable suspension system)“ but PSM is Porsche Stability Management, elsewhere though it does say it has PASM, this is the adjustable damping system.

 
Anecdotally the 2.7L engine is less prone to bore scoring and if you’ve done your homework you’ll be aware of the potential pitfalls of Gen1 Cayman ownership regarding the engine, although quite possibly overplayed in internet chatter.

A PPI by a reputable examiner will give you confidence for your purchase and although an additional expense it’s possible that it could flag-up something serious or at least provide you with information enabling you to negotiate a better price.

It looks like a well-kept and genuine car, so if it meets your requirements then go for it. Good luck!
