Hi all, I'm tinking about getting a 911 as a second car. I currently have a '97 E36 318iS Sport and would be using it as my every day motor. I was looking through autotrader and saw a stunning 964 for sale LHD with teardrop mirrors - it's being sold by someone called Adrian Symth. I don't suppose any of you gents know of this car as I would welcome your opinion.

Many thanks
Ciaran

I know Adrian... and I've seen the car recently at the Dardistown event.

Yup its a very very clean car - but thats all I know about it I'm afraid

Hi Cairan,
You should head down to mondello on friday, i will introduce you to Don Campbell who is a good mate of Adrian and will undouptably know the car........seek me out, look for a small bald dude who could do with loosin a few stone, i'll be the one with the laptop and no 993tt ( see previous thread ) !!!!!!!

Mark.
Ps I think howard langridge has one for sale on behalf of a customer

Hi Mark

I won't be able to make mondello as I'm heading to see U2 with the wife, typical!!

Do you have any details of the howard langridge one?

I noticed from another thread that the GT magazine has a buyers guide for the 964, I'll head out at lunch time and try to get a copy.

if you dont mind a lefthooker, 911virgin.com have one for about 10k sterling, its tiptronic....now that is what i call a cheap 911......says it has fsh., but at that money you can spend a few quid on it

I'd be looking for a UK reg motor, and with the money I have in mind it would be a left hooker, which I don't mind. That 911virgin site has two examples I'd be after - I LOVE the black one!
Adrian's one, also a left hooker also looks the dogs.

I'll send them an email now.

Edit, looks like they don't have email! A phone call later then.

I was too timid ! I was just getting it warmed up when it started sptitting rain. I came out of the first corner fairly easy on my 3rd lap, but the car spun under acceleration. Greasy track I guess. Strangely enough it went with no warning and at quite low speed. Usualy the boxster is well balanced and you can feel when its losing traction.

Anyway, having managed to turn the car around through some obscure law of physics, it proceeded to slide sideways across the track and up onto the grass. After that it was just a question of how hard it was going to be. Thankfully the car just tipped the barrier on the front passenger corner.

Got a quote that afternoon - new bumper and some minor repair work to the front wing. Looks like it will be around 1500 - 2000 euro depending on whether or not the headlight holder is ok.

Much and all as I like track days ( and that was about my 8th or 9th one ) I think its time to call it a day - I just cant afford to write the bloody thing off. 2 grand is an annoyance - 10 grand is a problem...

I think when I had my 944 I didnt car about the possibility of writing it off. Now that I have the much more valuable boxster and its now my only car - I'm perhaps a bit too concious of damaging it and as a result I dont enoy the track days as much.

Take things slow..AND USE THE BLOODY MIRRORS......not for a moment callin you a novice... . . .but.....
I noticed and i was not the only one who commented that the novices were going far far too hard.
we spotted one guy who had never been on a track before trying to keep up with everyone else, needless to say he spun off about every second lap...even worse when he was in front he refused to get out of the way. !!
when he got mustled out of the way, it frightened the crap out of him, didnt even see us behind

Funnily enough, I was taking it quite slow - I even let 2 cars past me on the preceeding 2 laps as I knew my tyres and brakes werent up to speed. I wasnt pushing on lap 3 - just still warming up. But its all academic anyway.....

Please note - I'm blaming myself totally here and not grease / oil on the track or another car etc. Purely Driver error on my part

And on the mirrors thing - I assume you are refering the the white 968CS. I had only just recovered back on track ( having spun between turn 1 and turn 2 ). I stayed well over on the RHS down the straight. I was recovering back to the pits and I was on the corner when it caught up to me. I did see the car, but was quite surprised when it overtook me on the outside going into the corner - especially following the yellow flags at turn 2.
