Hi all,
I'm new to this site and have just only recently been fortunate enough to join the ranks of Porsche-owners, if only with my little '78 911sc.
I bought it at a decent price with a few known cosmetic issues I'd budget-ed to fix. I've been utterly blown away at how exhilarating it is to drive (and looks!) for the past two months, but now my hand is being forced to get work done on it asap....due to mainly two reasons: 1. my MOT/road tax is expiring and 2. some anonymous cowardly idiot drove into the front wing when it was parked in a car park leaving me to pick up the pieces (still fuming a little).
so I have a few burning questions:
1. what are the recommended bodyshops in the North West (preferably Manchester) area - bearing in mind my limited budget, I've heard of 9M in Warrington but also that they're v. expensive and out of my range, are there cheaper reliable alternatives?
2. has anyone used Car Cosmetics (Trafford) or Classicarco(Worsley) before?
3. what are the average costs of re-spraying? I've been quoted various prices.
4. who are the trusted & reasonably priced independent Porsche mechanics who can resolve anything that comes from my MOT? again non-Porsche dealer rates would be much preferred.
5. a silly one, but I take it I can get my MOT done at any garage right?
6. finally, I need to re-seal my rear screen (water dripping in from top left of rubber seal), is the best way to do that to get the bodyshop guys to take care of it?
I just want to get the most out of my budget and not get ripped-off, and I'm feeling a little lost at the moment and any pearls of wisdom and experience from you guys will be very much appreciated!
hopefully I'll get a chance to come along to the monthly meetings soon...
