Now owner of my second R, PDK with more comfy sports seats, Air Con, Radio and Sports Chrono. A touring in Porsche language. Intend to do few European road trips and at age of nearly 68 just a few creature comforts.

Why 987 R. I am lucky to have owned over 40, 911 in my life Including 6 964RS, GT3, Turbo and modified Track Day Machines.

Easy, the R offers adequate standard power 330 BHP, lightweight build, fabulous handling and total driver communication. Very very similar to a lightweight 964RS. In fact there are a lot of build similarities that Porsche put into both for travelling Clubman.

Both, LSD, Lightweight Chassis, Lightweight Wheels, Suspension Mods, Different Engine Management plus 10 BHP, Bucket Seats, trim and more.

The drive very similar, particularly on full chat with the exhaust open, either track or road.

So all in all saving nearly £200k it was an easy buy.

Welcome to the Cayman register. There is a lot of love for the R in this community - fully justified. Ping me your email at the address below and I will link you to the WhatsApp group.

You made a very similar decision to me; I’m 66 and decided on a 987.2S for European road trips. I thought about an R but decided to compromise with the S for a better level of creature comfort, particularly the more forgiving suspension. It’s my first mid engined Porsche after a couple of 911s. Looking forward to testing out over the Pyrenees into France this August …
