New Interior Trim

Hi all

I've been hunting through the PET, finding the relevant pages for the interior trim for my S2, then searching for them on part number and description. Pretty much every search finds either nothing, second hand parts on ebay, or parts from the US.

Does anyone know of any place that sells new (or as good as) interior trim for 944s? Bert from Berlyn has suggested I go to Porsche, but presume that's a visit to the service centre as I can't seem to find an online Porsche parts shop. Also the service centre closes at 6pm, which is the earliest I could even be at home during the week.

I'm looking to replace all switches and the plastic strips behind them. I'll also be looking to replace the carpets, and seats in time too. I have considered second hand, but part of the reason for replacing some parts is due to fading (they will look bad against new shiny black parts) and also some are brittle and have broken when I've been fettling. I am considering reupholstering the seats though, provided I can get the drivers side electrical parts to work properly....

Phone your local OPC and tell them what you are looking for. If they are any good ( like the one I use in Glasgow) the parts guy will call you back or email you with prices. You can then decide what to buy and have them post it to you. Some of the boys on here use Exeter opc . Remember to tell them you are a PCGB member ( if your not then join, it'll save you a fortune) and they will give you a lovely discount. Also they sometimes offer bigger discounts for older cars.

Dont be scared of an OPC they are nearly always the cheapest for parts and most of them love older cars. I have been in and bought parts for 33p and been given a coffee that would have cost ten times the price of my part.

Your best bet is one of the friendlier Porsche Centres. Exeter have always been good, and Leicester offer a good discount. They'll post stuff out to you at cost.

Interior trim is cheap, but you are best off buying the whole set as the finish won't match the older bits. Sell the old stuff on ebay and get some of the cost back!

Thanks guys. Has anyone dealt with the Colchester OPC? That's my local one and where I had the health check done (thanks club!)

Do prices/discounts vary across the centres? If they do I could go to the Colchester one, get a quote for all the parts, then send it to Exeter OPC!

Colchester has always been fine for working on 944s from what I've heard, Andy Watson has bought plenty of spares and I think he's always used them over the years.

Discounts do vary, as does what they hold in stock. I think it's down to whether their parts guy cares about the older models or not, so see how responsive they are when you speak to them! [:)]

Hi Chris,

As it happens I just purchased a load of interior trim bits from the parts lady Katy Williams at OPC Hatfield - it could not have been easier to be honest.

I sent her a list of what I wanted late last Friday with parts numbers and description and within about 20 mins she had sent me a quote with all the prices.

She kept me updated throughout the process with lead times etc and when all the bits arrived from Germany a week later I went and picked them up.

She said she was pleased to receive the order as it was for classic parts and a bit different to her usual dealings.

I will always look to use her in future now as the prices were in most cases cheaper or comparable to elsewhere and I got to mooch about the newer kit with a free coffee and she was very helpful and good to deal with. [:)]

Cheers,
Charlie

I ordered new dash strips and switches from OPC Exeter a few months back. Excellent service and a good discount.

I use Colchester OPC for all my bits. You will struggle to get new carpets though, I asked them a couple of weeks ago and from memory I think the only thing available was black boot carpets.

As a side note - and judging by the activity on this post there seems to be an increasing number of people taking the time to refresh their interiors with the new trim bits. Can only be a good thing. [:)]

Chris,

Think I have posted before on another thread for you, boys at Colchester very helpful and know our cars give them a call and talk through what you want, they will post to you or you can like I do collect on a Saturday morning.

12 years I have been picking parts up and they service the car as well - cheaper than you think!

The boys at Glasgow John and Danny are both really good. The dealer manager is currently restoring a 914 and his early 912 sits on the showroom floor. Both the parts guys love older cars and John in particular loves to sit and chat old cars as well as whats new. They also both remember my car going out the door when it was new and even remembered my 924 (1980) when it was new.So i would always recommend using them.

I heard that there is a competition amongst all the Dealerships to buy an old classic wreck, restore it and then sell it.

My local place are doing up this 964 http://blueprint-app.co.uk/restoration_sutton_coldfield/1MR-PS6/restoration_sutton_coldfield.aspx
