New hoses needed

This morning one of the hoses burst. Luckily I was in traffic, rolling downhill very slowly and not on the motorway.

The temperature reading was on at 1/4. (Just before the pipe burst, I could hear something which sounded like water/coolant running through the pipe. Before I had time to register anything, the pipe burst.)

I'll probably have all or most of the hoses changed as a result. The question is do I buy new rubber hoses or go with silicone?

The car is a '91 turbo.

 
Silicone is pretty, but its expensive even before the inevitable Porsche tax. I was tempted by the lure of pretty blue hoses on my old track car, but I bought new OEM in the end. Id be interested to see what prices you have found, as Id been considering replacing the hoses on my '88 Turbo...
 
I made a set of mandrels for my turbo, turned out pretty good. Would probably do a run for a few people, straight from manufacturer so would be the best price you are going to get. Intake hoses are lined with fluorosilicone for oil resistance.

I've just spent a fortune on the suspension so don't really want to pay extra for silicone hoses if there is no real benefit.

Also, the hoses are 20 years old so its likely hoses are going to be brittle and crack/burst etc. If I change to new rubber hoses, they should be good for another decade at least. So again, no point in paying the extra as the rubber ones will outlast my ownership. (And the next few owners most likely.)

Spoke to Porsche (Hatfield) and they quoted all coolant hoses can be bought for £270. They couldn't confirm how much time would be needed change the hoses though? At £100/hr + vat, that's too pricey for me.

Can the hoses be bought for less from elsewhere?

The only ones I found so far are from Lindsey Racing @ $210 (+del, import duty, VAT) for silicone hoses and clamps.

+ another $30 if you want to include the heater hose kit and clamps.

 
you can get a set of samcos cheaper than that ...under £200 iirc

just change the hoses yourself ...not rocket science !

Give Bert a call at Berlyn see what he can do them for.

+1 for changing them yourself, save a packet and will pay for the hoses!
