New Diesel for Panamera

Hi Kevin,

My 911 went in for a service today and I was offered a Boxter as a loan car.

I said that I would prefer to have the Panamera Demonstrator on the Forecourt !

After a few minutes, I was given the keys to a 2 day old Oil Burner with 39 miles on the clock.

The car is quite impressive for an Diesel and with an 8 speed PDK gearbox,Launch control and lots of other gizmos it has been a fun day.

The thing that I didi not fancy was the engine cutting out when you stopped at say a roundabout or junction. I had heard stories that once the engine cuts out, it could takea second or so to regain power to move. With the Panamera the engine cuts it remains silent all the time one's foot is on the brake. Once you lift your foot, the engine restarts in the time it take to transfer your foot to the gas pedal. No matter how hard you try you can't beat it !!

The Panamera is a great Luxury Sports Cruiser, akin to a Mercedes SL55 and is a credit to Porsche design and engineering but I do not like it enough to buy one as it stands.

Perhaps when Porsche bring out the Panermera Turbo S Cabriolet I will be tempted.

The 911 service will take another day so I will have the car tomorrow for furter evaluation.

However, all in all I would award it 8.5/10 as a car !!
