New Clutch

Hi Ian Nine Excellence will definitely do a decent job for you...... there is also a place in Horsham that might be worth a try. Parr will probably be a little dearer but they have plently of experience. I have to say that £1000 incl VAT does not sound too much - thats £833 plus VAT, a Sachs clutch kit through PorscheShop is £540 plus VAT so £293 labour is apx 4.5 hours at £65...... most of the cost is parts, and the labour cost seems reasonable. Be interested to see if you come up with much better elsewhere ! Not seen your car around in a while, but then I rarely escape from Reigate during the day, and mine is off the road pending me putting a new gearbox in...... Let me know if you fancy doing it yourself as I might be able to lend a hand, and have just purchased a very useful floor transmission jack which might come in handy :) Cheers Alan

Sadly that sounds about right. Not a cheap job on a 944. I'd almost be a little concerned if anyone came in much lower, it does take a while to do properly and the parts are expensive.

Hi Guys,

It looks like I need a new clutch. I have been quoted £1000 inc VAT by 911 Excellence in Horley, Parr garage in Crawley are coming back to me with costs.

In the experience of the forum is this now the going rate or does anyone know of someone cheaper. I am in Reigate, Surrey but don't mind a little drive.

Parr were another £400.00. I will give Northways a ring and get them to cost. Alan, I have this weekend just put in new gearbox output shaft seals and repaired the gearbox mount with polyurethane glue (its worked) so feel I have been under the car enough for the time being but thanks for the offer. Car is going really well apart from the clutch. Ian

Thats right that is - its either engine out or gearbox off job so it takes a while and the clutch itself was £500 when I had mine done 2 or 3 years ago.

Three prices got in the end £850, £950 and £1250 all plus VAT all from reputable southern garages. Booked in at 911 excellence. Looking forward to no more juddering. Ian

I can understand the feeling - mines been on the road for a total of 6 weeks this year, and in the end I got Nine Excellence to finish the job off for me........ sure they will do an excellent job for you [:)] My gearbox mounts fell apart when I dropped the gearbox out the other week, so I am having to replace mine along with the box [&o]

Alan, Use "tiger seal" polyurethane adhesive and repair your existing mount works a treat. saves 3100 odd quid. There is a link on Rennlist search urethane transmission mount.
