New Audio in my 955 Turbo with Bose - help!

Hi all
After changing the audio head unit in my Transit motorhome with a fancy carplay unit, which was incredibly simple, I thought I would change the audio unit in my 955 Turbo. I wish I hadn't started....

Bought a new unit, and managed to get it hooked up easily, fired up the bluetooth, got carplay connected, all looked promising. Then the problems started :) no sounds whatsoever from the speakers.

I have a Bose head unit with a fibre optic connection (god knows why?), and so after some extensive googling it turned out I needed a 'MOST fibre decoder'? I bought one of those (another £85) and wired it up today. Nothing, still. I have tried everything and am close to chucking in the towel :)

Has anyone managed to do this successfully? I don't want to spend £1000s on a replacement head unit - I just want Apple Carplay!
