Can anyone identify where this bracket goes on a Turbo? I took it off as part of the engine rebuild, painted it and now I can't figure out where the hell it fits back into [&:]

Hi Rob, It goes longitudinally between the turbo and the block. See here -

What strikes me about this picture Graham aside from the massive turbo is the massive amount of knock sensors that seem to bolted to your block!!

[:D][:D][:D] One is the standard one for the KLR, one is for a Link KnockLink display unit for in car monitoring and the other is for data logging via a Link KnockBlock unit.

Now that the part is fully named, can I use the thread to ask Graham what info the Knocklink provides aside from the obvious? eg. would it detect knock at certain load conditions, rpm levels, throttle positions, fuel grade, or combinations of each. also, if the kit was not there, would you detect the knock from engine tone?? I would like to think I have no knock, and if I did I would sense it. George

George, the Knocklink provides a visual representation of the knock activity detected by the dedicated sensor. The ugly box contains a series of coloured LEDs which illumiate when detonation is detected. Its quite common to disassemble the KL and to mount the LEDs within the binnacle somewhere. Graham, where did you buy the KL and how much did it cost, please? Ive been trying to buy a DetAlarm, but Rupert stooped making them about five years ago and there dont seem to be any left. I did have one boxed and unused for my Impreza, but I cant find it.... Simon

As Simon said really. It detects knock and lights up successive LED's depending on the severity - ie it is a real time warning display. You would possibly be able to hear really bad knock, but then again you may not. Certainly, you would miss lower levels that could still be harmful. I used it when tuning after the last turbo upgrade as boost came in earlier, and I also increased boost levels. I wanted to datalog full boost WOT runs on the road while tuning, but also wanted to see if I was getting knock in real time while I was doing them! Also used it while on the few track days I have done in Ferdie. For actual analysis you would need something else to let you log data to review later - like the KnockBlock, or tap into the KLR. Simon, I picked it up from eBay some time ago - together with the KnockBlock. Not much more than £100 for both from memory.
