Next generation Boxster Coupe is in todays Autocar with an expected entry level price sub £30K available in 2006. First out the BOX :-D will be the all new singing and dancing Roadster in 2005. Codenamed 987, the new Boxster will be an evolution of todays highly praised model. Key components such as its rear wheel drive platform, suspension, steering, brakes and electric systems will be carried over with only minor changes or upgrades according to Porsche insiders

To keep development costs down and further bolster production efficiency, the new car again shares a high percentage of parts with the larger more expensive and heavily upgraded 911 - the 997 due next year.

Power for the new Boxster will come from two lightly reworked horizontally opposed engines: the existing 2.7 and the 3.2 litre sixes. Both gain around 10 BHP together with considerable boost in low end torque to improve there already impressive responses.

Among the proposals before Porsche chairman Wiedeking is a stripped out Club Sport model running a powered up version of Porsche' s classic flat six.
This is rumoured to be a 3.4 litre unit with around 310 BHP

Other important changes to be incorporated on the new Boxster include a new interior design boasting higher grade materials. clearer instrumentation and revised switchgear placement.....

If you want the full monty go by a copy of Autocar .....

Go on, post the .jpg!

The one attached on the Yahoo message got stripped out as usual by the Yahoo messaging software. You can' t expect us to wait until lunchtime to go and find a copy of the magazine! We want pics now! [:D]

Sorry the jpeg is too big and as my scanner is not working I can' t seem to reduce the file size If you email me at robert.stone@daro.com I can give you the beauty to try and reduce to fit on here [8D]

i really like it but will it sell?

can' t help feeling that i would still go for the soft top and get a hard top for the winter thus giving myself the best of both worlds.

http://www.irfanview.com is a good app to use (and it' s free!).

I like it. Will wait until I get home to look at it in more detail. Would like to see the back though.

Cheers,

Mike

Well, apart from the front lights/air intakes, what is different to the normal Boxster ?

As you can tell, I am of the non-Boxster persuasion.

(I was going to say older/older car persuasion, but that is another thread - and anyway, I am NOT old, do you hear !)

Bah Humbug.

Question,

Now that the Boxster coupe solves the difficulty of torsional stiffness and with the inherent better balance of the boxster chassis can we expect that eventually the ' customer' motorsport effort will finally shift to the Boxster.

If so will the next or next but one ' GT3' type car be based on the Boxster as is rumoured the motorsport division would like or will marketing people still insist its based on the technically inferior 911 concept.

If so my order would be in like a shot.

John surely that' s one of the great things about owning a Porsche it takes 40 years before you can say that the current flavour is totally different to the original [8D] and even then a blind man could still see the family resemblances [:D]

Am I alone in thinking why am I having to rush out an buy Autocar to find out the details on the Boxster Coupe. Why are there not announcements of new models to the club members via the club magazine or web site.

Thank' s for taking the time to post the photographs. I find these fascinating and like the car very much.

Because Porsche have not announced this yet, and perhaps never will.

Autocar have inside the magazine a spy shot of a heavily disguised coupe Boxster running at Wiessach. They have photoshopped this illustration to show what it might be like if it is produced.

Coupe Boxsters (Coupster?) have been tested and even shown to potential customers for a few years now. It does not mean it will be produced.

It would be nice if it was though...

Tony,

as Mark has said, Porsche do not make special " what if" announcements to the Club (or indeed, to anyone). Anyway, members have kindly scanned the article (and the many others before this) so you dont need to buy Autocar if you dont want to.
This is the beauty of the Forum.

btw John, this pictured car is staggeringly different to todays Boxster in the detail areas of front lights, front air intake, side window line, rear quarters and engine air intake. It looks yummy but I doubt the real one will have all these details.

Nic

Why would you doubt the real NEXT Boxster will have all those yummy details ... The next SLK is a stunner, the Z4 aka Clowns Shoes is ****** but completely different to the Z3 it replaced, the next Elise is completely different to current one if LOTUS don' t go bust! or get sold off yet again so to be honest I would think Porsche can' t be that unaware that to stay the best sports car in the world for another life of a model the next car is going to have to be something along the lines of Autocars scoop yesterday.

There is no way the USA Boxsterer' s will buy a lightly face lifted new model and lets face it thats where the big buck$ for Porsche are made

Hey, I am going on past Porsche model changes, but am I not allowed an opinion now?

And it will make not a jot of difference what you, or I or Autocar say. The car will come out when AG decides and then we will see.

I have a long standing deposit for a Turbo Boxster, this would go rather nicely on the Club Sport version, lighter and with a big engine. Lets cross our fingers
