My neighbours S2 for sale.

I offered to help my neighbour try and sell his 944. He is a nice bloke and the car hasn't wanted for anything. I think he has been a tad overly critical with his advert text but never-the-less, the following is what he has said.

For Sale is my 1990 Porsche 994 S2 Cabriolet

I've owned the car for a year & a new toy forces the sale of this great car. MOT until 30th May 2014 & Taxed until 31st October 2013.

When I bought the car it suffered with a number of electrical faults often seen on these cars - electric roof not working, slow starter motor, pop up headlights not working slow electric windows. All of these have been repaired & are fully working.

I've also replaced the battery, the bonnet struts, new wheel centres & bought the lovely blue hood cover.

This is not a concours car so if you're looking for a show winner keep looking! Auto trader has cars listed from £4,500 - £11,000 & Ebay cars from £4,500 - £24,995

The car would take work to make perfect, however this is a very usable everyday car that is great fun to use. With a perfect roof a new hood cover & all electrics fully working.

To be used & enjoyed the car needs nothing.

To improve you would recover the seats replace the carpets & paint the car. Alternatively jump in, turn the key once, drive off & enjoy!

Benefits from part service history, long MOT, Thatcham Cat One alarm / immobiliser with remote central locking & single disc CD radio.

These cars are becoming extremely rare with only 318 left according to DLVA, so grab yourself a bargain.

The car has beautiful lines & is unusual in looking great both with the hood up or down.

£3,500.

Car is located in Hartlepool - Postcode TS26

Please feel free to pm me if you are interested and I will pass you my neighbours details.

That looks a bargain at the price, but there is no mention of service items, recent work, or the usual corrosion areas in the ad.

I'd say he needs to give more detail on the important things: clutch, belts, sills, mileage, that sort of thing. I know we are all liable to be a bit anal about the cars, but most buyers will now have joined forums, read up on the weak areas, and know what to look for in an advert.

That's a lovely colour combination for a cab, and it might well be a great car. I have a horrible feeling that it's priced very low, doesn't address the things people will want to know, and the owner has only had it a year. That's probably a very unfair way to view it, but the ad does it no favours and actually rings some alarm bells.

I wonder if it's worth a template FAQ for adverts for 944s? We see so many ads that don't do the cars justice. [&o]

Also, it mentions that the seat could do with recovering but then no pics of the "damage".

I'm guessing it's the driver's bolster as the interior pics are taken so you can't see this. Personally, I'd rather see any issues beforehand rather then when I view as it makes you wonder what else the seller may be hiding.

It does look cheap though and hopefully as Paul says, the other bits are sound.

I appreciate your comments fellas and will feed that back to him.

As I said in my post above, I think he is being too critical, its very nice imo. Obviously if anyone is interested then im not the best person to speak to; I would happily get you his number and im sure he would be more than happy to send high res photos.
