Hiya
I'm relatively new to the forum having only joined the club a few months back. After many years of thinking about it, in April this year I decided to go for it and got myself down to Solihull OPC and ordered a new 718. ??
The origional plan was to order a gt3 but quickly found out that the chance of walking into a dealership and getting them to let you order such a thing with zero previous with the marquee is slim to zero.
That been said having the chance to work up the range and learn more about the brand is something me and the wife Rachel are looking forward to.
For the last 15 years despite having many cars I've always been fond of a fast Renault and always having my Mitsubishi Evolution. My favourites been a new Renault Megane 275 Trophy R in 2014 and up until ordering the 718 a 1998 Mitsubishi Evolution 5 RS which with the help of MG Autos in Ripley changed over the years from a standard 280hp saloon to one with 650hp / 500 ft/lb and gave me much joy using in the Uk and Europe.
After many nights of chopping and changing colours, specs and interior colours we locked the spec in early summer for a September 67 plate delivery. Carrera white, carmine red, and graphite blue metallic were the choice I swayed between... until the night before lock down I found a picture on Pinterest and changed to the same colour and wheel combo I hant ever considered.
Rhodium Silver and 20" Carrera Classic wheels.
I then spent the remaining months thinking to myself have I done the right thing right up till Nigel from Solihull emailing to say the car was ready for collection on 18th Sept.
The day come to collect and was such a wonderful experience. I decided against having the car prepped by the OPC using the paint protection they offered. I presumed would be Gtechniq? Logic behind it been one of my closest friends is himself an experienced vehicle detailer and has done all my cars over the years helping keep them in the highest order. Normally I have my cars protected in Gtechniq products however after reading some brilliant reviews decided to protect the car using Gyeon products with most noteably using their Durabead product for the ceramic coating.
The car only has 300 mile on it currently so haven't had much chance to explore its capabilitys however today took a few pictures at the Chateau Impney the show it off.

Plans for the coming month are to fully run the car in and start to enjoy it with a good few track days along the way at the Ring, Spa and my usual UK venues Donington Park, Caldwell and Silverstone. I've also arranged with approval of the wife our first European driving holiday in June 18 with just over 2 weeks booked to visit Amsterdam, Lake Garda, Venice, Maranello, Monaco, and Paris.
I only intend to own the car for around a year as if it gets released I've already put into Solihull written confirmation to order a 718 GTS. However if that doesn't come to fruition I'm sure will have many days of fun motoring in the current car.
I will share my stories as I go
Thanks Jamie
