mot emmissions

Guys, just had a call from the garage to say my s2 cab's failed it's mot on emmissions (nothing else tho).
I have been having issues with the battery going dead as i haven't used the car much at all of late so have been having to charge it up before taking her out (had it on charge yesterday evening too).
Could it be something as simple as needing a new battery and a good long run?
Emmissions previously have never been an issue.
Any advice much appreciated.
 
Has your car got a cat? Mine hadn't and the tester was testing emissions as though it had. When I pointed out there was no cat he said it was well within range and the job was done.
 
Good point - they said on the phone that the cat might need replacing to which i replied there's not one on mine!

Whether a car has a cat or not is immaterial for the MOT test. What IS important is the date of first registration. From memory, I believe cars registered before 1st August 1992 must conform to a somewhat less rigorous emission limit, whereas cars registered after that date must conform to a much stricter limit. The stricter limit is more easily achieved WITH the aid of a cat, but there is nothing in the MOT rules that say you MUST have one. If the car can achieve the desired results without the cat fitted then it passes - end of story.

Absolutely there is nothing to say you must have one but the emission figures for a 944S2 non-cat and 944S2 with-cat are quite different. My tester was assuming a cat was fitted and hence was expectiung it to meet the tougher figure.

 
Was your car properly warmed up before taking it for the MOT? Mine has failed before now for similar issues only to pass the same afternoon with little or no work done.

Well, went back just after 5pm and after warming it up and adjusting with an allen key from under the AFM she has passed.
Happy days!
