Mixing Power Steering Fluid

Is this a No no?
Had a Little whine While Parking in a tight Spot yesterday Didn't make the Noise when leaving the spot or when parking at Home..I have some Power steering fluid from my old Fiat Coupe Not sure what make is already in..Should I mix it?

Don't react yet. Monitor the situation. Possibly a one-off? Mixing fluid when you do not know the compatibility may make cause a problem that wasn't there to start with.

Well i've got a leak in the cooling system on the Focus (thermostat housing thankfully) and i've been topping up with a water/Halfords anti-freeze mix and I read in the handbook that you shouldn't mix different anti-freezes either!! Oh well.

As a mechanic once said to me regarding oil "Any oil is better than no oil at all"

I thought that, like brake fluid and oil, unless otherwise stated, all fluids of the same specification had to be interchangeable/mixable. If not you could never change fluids without replacing all seals, pipes, reserviours, galleries, pistons, pumps etc etc.

Halfords stock a suitable replacement. I can't remember the make but there is a catalogue. I believe its the same fluid used for auto transmision.

On another note- does anyobody elses fluid overflow if topped up to the full mark? Mine seems to, even if the caps on tight, once it drops to a particular level it stops.
My mates Lotus is the same.

What he said.............[;)] or you`d never mix two different engine oils or different manufacturers of Dextron II or III or brake fluid etc etc. Most have a Din/Euro type rating so must be compatible within their ranges stated.
