Anyway it never lost coolant before and I guess it wasnt leaking, what does everybody think, should I chance it will be fine again or should I be looking at changing it out, guess I could try stud extractor and see how it goes, anybody know can these be bought or what thread size I should be looking for. I am tempted to leave it as it was ok previously, anyway whats everybodies opinion. On the photo its the rusty short one, lol!. What can I do to all these studs to clean them up?

All opinions welcome, thanks guys

I personally would leave it be, unless you find out you have a leak when you refit it, then i would get it drilled out/replaced....

build it up with some mig weld and it will come straight out. If you don't, it will probably leak. 5 minute repair.

I've never been faced with this problem, I would take the approach that Alasdair has suggested - you've got to a lot of hassle to pull the front of the engine apart and the last thing you want is to have to do it again if it leaks.

The 5min job is very straightforward if you have a MIG welder, access to or have a friend who can bring theirs around !

You might also want to replace the other studs whilst you're at it save them shearing off ?

what thread are they as might have mission getting them locally, I wonder if i could put a bolt in there instead, since it is probably a metric thread i would defo be able to get one of them easily enough. What does everybody think of that, guess I aint got much to lose cause if I trash it, it isnt going to make any difference?

I'm pretty sure it was originally a bolt anyway - there are only four studs, which you can see to the top and right of your picture. Good luck getting it out!

Alex, they are bog stock M6 x 1mm pitch. You will be able to get them easily. I think they are about 40 mm long but will be the same size as the ones you took out apart from the big long one on the left,

As had already been said - do the job properly, specially as you have got this far. You'll kick yourself if you don't and it leaks when you reassemble it. The stud is standard pitch M6 and should be available from any engineering shop.

If you don't have access to a welder then you can buy stud removal tools. Google is your friend.

Oli.

Got a mig so will have a go when i head out garage in five mins time, lol, will buy some stud extractors and some m6 bolts, will let you know how I get on, cheers all
