Mesh in the front vents

After following Min's 'Technical Article' I've put mesh into the front vents. Hopefully the leaves will find it harder to get to the rads now?!...

Thanks. As it was the first time I'd taken the bumper off, having only bought the car 2 weeks ago, I was a little nervous about getting it back on again, but it was easier than I thought it would be. There was an amazing amount of debris between the condensers and rads, so got in there with an air gun and gave them a good clean...very happy that I've cracked that job early on in my ownership.

It was the first thing I did too, Unfortunatly I was too late and my A/C Rads both had leaks.
But now there covered.

A bit longer than stated in the Tech Articles, but that was probably because I was being very careful with every screw:

45-60 mins to remove the bumper.
30 mins to remove the condenser screws and clean out all the debris with a brush and compressor air gun.
30 mins to make the cardboard stencils.
45-60 mins to mark and cut out the mesh.
30 mins to glue the mesh into the vents.
Left to dry overnight.
20 - 30 mins to replace the bumper.

Between 3hrs 20min and 4hrs for the whole job, although there were lots of tea breaks and house chores in between!!!...

As it was the first time I was doing anything to the car, I was particularly careful, so it would be considerably quicker for anyone who has had their bumper off previously.

approx same timings for me, I also repainted all the screws using a black matt spray can from Halfords such is my OCD[:D]

My wife often tells me I have OCD!!! I did spend quite a bit of time cleaning the screws (which I didn't add to the timings above) with a wire brush, but didn't think to paint them...for next time!

If anyone wants to help me do mine, pls give me a shout. In exchange of Beer tokens obviously. Thanks

looks good. Couple of questions, did you get the car up on axle stands when removing the front ? Did you just use adhesive for the grills or did you use any self tappers ?

Where do you live? I've been off work this week, so have been able to crack the job without the missus getting annoyed that I'm 'playing with my toy'! Back to work on Monday.

My drive is on a slight slope, so with the rear of the car downhill I could get underneath the front skirt to remove the screws. I've got axle stands, and would have used them if needed, but managed to get under without them. Note: in Min's Tech Article he says you should turn the steering to one side in order to make it easier to get to the screws in the wheel arches. I found that I had to turn the steering on full lock one way to remove a far inner screw in the arch, then turn the wheels the other way to do the same to the other side. The space between the wheel and arch is too small to get your hand in when the wheel is turned inwards.

Did you just use adhesive for the grills or did you use any self tappers?

I just used adhesive...I'll have to see how long it lasts!!!

I'm in Hounslow. About 5 mins from junc 1 off the M3. I'm trying to get it done this week from a local car av place and will report back.

Should cut the mustard.

I had my car on axle stands as the wheels were away being refurbed. The additional height made it far easier to see the screws under the front and it was obviously easier to sort the wheel arch liners fasteners with the wheels out of the way

The adhesive I used was

urefixII

no self tapper just a few cable ties to hold the mesh in place till the adhesive went off
