Mental Indicators

My left hand indicators have gone a bit mad, the right hand side is fine but the left ones are going like the clappers and the one on the front isnt working, I tried swapping the bulb but its the same.

I tried reseating the relay and tapping it to no avail, any ideas ?

Are you sure the bulb you tried replacing the failed one with actually works? Wouldn't be the first time I've had a dead new bulb straight from the packet.

If not that, then I'd suspect a broken connection to the bulb that's not flashing. Get a meter on the bulb socket when the indicators are supposed to be flashing and see if you get any output.

Cheers Glenn, the one I took out looked a bit black so assumed it was knackered, will try another tonight as was only a quick look before work, will dig the multi tester out.

The fact that the bulb is gone will be the reason they are flashing too fast. Solve the duff bulb (or duff connection) problem and all will be well.

Oli.

take the bulb out, give the conections a damn good clean with some emery cloth or fine sandpaper. to test if its a duff bulb, just swop the working side to the duff side. that'll tell you if its the bulb or the connections.

Seems like its the bulb holder, I messed about with it and it sorted it out briefly, then I got a screwdriver in and moved the contacts about and scraped a bit of corrosion off, seems ok now but might have to mess with it again.

Be careful as well as the front indicator has a separate fuse from the side and rear indicator circuit!

IF the bulb is good - its the contacts between the socket and the bulb OR the bulb grounding to the socket. I had the same problem and it was the front bulb had developed a bit of a "rust" stain cause water was getting past the lens. A quick scrub up and all was well.
