I have had my 911sc for 25 years.
When I first got it, fellow Porsche owners seemed derisive, preferring the non-impact bumper models or the later Carreras.
i was pleased to watch recently the video "the glory days of the Porsche 911 1963 to 1993"
in it my 1982 208cc model receives much praise and the name "sc" is said to have derived from the earlier 356sc.
the 356sc was the highest thought of 356 model as this extract from a sales ad illustrates,
"This particular example is one of 8,275 Coupes built in 1963 and according to the Stoddard Porsche 356 Body and Engine ID decoder, the chassis number denotes that it is the more desirable SC model. Evidently, the body has been restored at some point in its life and the white paintwork is bright with very good shut lines and clean engine bay. The interior is in beautiful condition. The seats are excellent with no rips or tears and the headlining is superb. The odometer reads 30,297 kilometres, which is most likely since the car was restored. As would be expected of a car of such perpetual refinement, the Porsche 356 SC is widely considered the ultimate iteration of Porsche's first production sports car."
people always implied that the 911sc was somehow inferior to previous 911's being produced in a period when the company saw its future (mistakenly) in its front engined models
they suggested sc might mean sports coupe or other such
as a proud 911sc owner, I find it heartening to know that whatever sc means, sc was used on the ultimate iteration of its predecessor the 356, and by implication should be seen as a rather superior 911, perhaps one of the best, even!
