Maroc Challenge

Hi Folks,
I'm recent cayenne driver having read the article regards the Maroc Challenge in the Feb issue. I've tried to contact Steve/Paul via email having got an initial reply from Greg, but can't seem to get a reply. Is anyone on here looking at doing the Maroc Challenge? If so perhaps we could start a thread to help folks out with preparations and parts?

Hi Phil,

I'm doing it, I also did it last year - it was me/my Cayenne in the article.

I'll give Steve a nudge to make sure you're looped in.

A thread or a seperate forum on here makes a lot of sense, there is also talk of a whatsapp group which I beleive should be up and running shortly.

Matt

Thanks Matt. I won't be doing the Maroc in the current Cayenne. I bought a 2017 hybrid which I'm enjoying so far and look forward to some European road trips. I was planning on a 4.5ltr v8 for the Maroc, but heard via the grapevine that the 3.6ltr V6 is a better bet, so options still open for that...

3.6L V6 is by far the best option, the V8 cars have the oil filter in an exposed position which even with a sump guard can still fail due to compression of the filter housing against the sump. They're also a little heavier and a little less durable than the VR6 but more importantly VW parts are most available in Africa than Porsche parts!

V8 cars with springs are also quite rare, you really want coil spring suspension for this as it allows easy conversion to something like GMC suspension which is a must for ride height, compliance and durability.

Having done this last year when there was a V8 Cayenne and a V6 Cayenne (mine) competing in the same event we had opportunity to back to back the performance. The V8 was no quicker across ground but unfortuntately smashed the oil filter on stage 4 and retired accordingly. The V6 went to the end.... and drove back to the UK!
