Magnesium wheel refurbs

Cracks will need to be welded, I would suggest Ian Jemison who specialises in such repairs.

Once welded, you need to enlist the help of someone who has experience in refurbishing magnesium wheels. In the past I used Reality Motorworks in Bristol to undertake the preparation and chromating (the chromating is the vital stage). After chromating Reality will cover the wheel in a very thin layer of primer leaving the wheels ready for painting. Alternatively Reality will powder coat the wheels in your colour of choice.

I used these guys last year. Ex-Dymag, they know what they're doing with mag wheels.......

Was very pleased with the service and quality of work

My mags are at Jemisons right now for a re-furb. They can repair and refurb your wheels. I will let you know how I get on but i am reasonably confident as they have done them twice before over the last fifteen years, both times to a good standard.

This time they have asked to hang on to them for a couple of weeks as they want to treat them to a longer stint in the oven once the old finish has been removed in order to thoroughly dry them out before re-finishing.

Once I get them back I intend to permanently retire them out of harm's way which is a shame really but they are too valuable to risk on our grim road surfaces.

TCPS is the place to go. Brilliant service, great finish and a fair price. They did the mags on my 959 last year and I was very happy.

Damen, did they do your wheels to the Porsche paint code or a close match? And powdercoated?

Hmmm,
That's confused me ........ Steve at TPCS told me he only had one silver (a bit lighter than factory finish), and he did not volunteer an alternative to source the factory paint code. Perhaps my mistake for not asking the right question ????

Collected wheels today, completely satisfied with result. I did ask about the colour but it is simply their regular silver rather than a specific Porsche shade. I must say that I am only concerned about the result rather than the exact colour. All the lettering is present and correct.

A cost of £280 seems very reasonable, really nice family business, use them with confidence if York is convenient for you.

I took my wheels to TPCS last week. I asked the question about colour matching. He said he powdercoats in a standard silver, then the customer is free to have them painted in whatever colour matched silver they want. That's the same advice he gives to Porsche GB too.
