Magnecor Leads

I think it's about time to replace the HT leads on my 1987 Lux and was looking at Magnecor ones as an alternative to OE, for the obvious reason of cost. I believe several people on here have fitted them to their cars and was just seeking some opinions on their performance vs OE leads and the sort of price to expect to pay. Thanks in anticipation.

I replaced them on mine as general maintenance. Noticed no difference in performance. Got leads for another car from performanceleads.co.uk. They were good value and seemed as good as magnecore

I've got the KV85 leads. Bought them because they were red, they work, no probs and not much more to add.

I'd still go for the OE leads I am afraid despite the cost. On the two occasions I have used them the connectors of the OE items (IME the items that tend to cause issues) were far superior (on my Mondeo the 'OE' Bosch and Magnecor leads required a hammer to get them to sit perfectly on the lead (read to physically 'click' into place in comparison to the Ford items). The Ford items were much easier to fit and didn't require such brutal action. Why can't people make decent pattern parts? Whilst the 4 pot may be better in this respect I really was impressed with how the 16v Beru leads connected onto the relevant bits on my S2. A positive and decent connection.

If you wish to put it into perspective Ford charge £130 for leads on a Mk3 Mondeo with a 4 Pot Duratec. I appreciate one can get £20 leads, but IME they barely last 20k before you get ignition issues (I.e Backfiring etc.), or harming something if other owners are anything to go by (I.e the ECU or coilpack). I shall admit in this instance £130 is a little rich... Magnecors are £60 on the same car, but why do they insist on using shit interconnectors? It's not like £60 is a small sum of cash to spend on HT leads!

~£80 for a set of OEM leads or ~£60-70. Think its deffintly worth the little extra for OEM there, though tbf I've only heard a couple of negative things about Magnecor fitted on cars.

Simon, it was a few ears back but think it was about £40 or so

Thanks. Whenever there isn't a price for the Porsche fitment you expect the worst...

I reckon part of the issue is that many compare new leads with original, tired leads, where almost anything would bring an improvement. I'm not saying that you will gain power, but possibly reliability in the long run. I know that on two of my dailies I have only changed 1 set of leads in the entire life of the car in comparison to previous cars of the same kind. Bear in mind that on an old daily I had, the inlet manifold had to come off to change the leads and plugs on one bank of cylinders, making any mishap with cheap parts a royal pain (2005 Ford Mondeo 3.0 V6).
