Finally bowed down the diesel dissing morons who are causing the prices of diesel cars to drop like a stone and traded in my beloved Macan S D for an even nicer Night Blue GTS. Although I am loving the GTS and everything about it what I can't get me head round is the MPG and why the diesel cars are getting such bad press. My SD would easily get 35-40 mpg where as in the GTS I am lucky if a I get 25 mpg and this is only obtained if you never stick your right foot down to the floor, which lets face facts is only going to happen if I am stuck in a traffic jam !! Apart from missing the MPG on the SD I have to say that the GTS is not a lot different to drive (My SD was quite highly spec'd) apart from one crucial aspect that all Porsche's should have and that is the exhaust note, I did not realize how much I missed it and it only gets better when you turn on the PSE and push the 'Sport Plus' button not only does the car become even more of a beast but the exhaust noises changing up and down are amazing. The alcantara sports seats are nice and a bit more figure hugging as well as providing more support but not as comfortable as the 14 way adjustable seats in the SD. No panoramic sunroof in the new one either but I can live without that in the hope that this car will make me smile everyday which so far it is !!

Sounds like you should have stuck rather than twist. I agree with most of what you say other than Porsche actually wrecked the SD with fix software then did a runner.
 
I have been pondering this change myself. At 35mpg a diesel produces 212g of CO2 and at 25mpg a petrol produces 270g so an increase of 27%. The killer for the diesel is the nitrous oxide and particulates that are reckoned to be up to 8 times more polluting than CO2.
The fuel cost is another issue. On 10000 miles at the above mpgs diesel works out at around £1688 and petrol £2273, 34% more.
I am due the software upgrade when I take the car in to have the summer wheels put back on in April. Given everything said about it I am hoping to avoid provided it doesn't compromise the 2 year warranty that came with the car. If it has to be done and makes the car horrid, and added to the risk of issues with the transfer box, it may mean I take the plunge and get rid of it for something much smaller and look to hang on to the 997 for as long as possible instead.
 
Trouble is if you compare a Euro 6 diesel and Ad blue it very nearly matches petrol on Nox whilst producing 18% less CO2 and less particulates than Petrol. Now we have particle filters on petrol. As usual and much like the push to Diesel then Petrol and now EV its just not thought through end to end. Nox can produce positive effect on Ozone so on ships NOx is a good thing as it helps the Ozone layer and therefore global warming, it doesnt work for cars unfortunately due to being produced over land ending up in soil via acid rain.
