Looks good value

It does, although if the date stamp is correct on the photos they're 3 1/2 years old!! That said, he has a MK1 Lotus Cortina too so this should have been looked after I'd guess ;)

Cheers
Andy

Could be a good car, even in red.

"Belts need doing but no noise yet."
Just as well, given that the noise in question would be the sound of all the valves banging into the pistons. But at least the belts work is a known figure to budget for.

Apart from that I would need to find out more about who did the corrosion rectification last year, and satisfy myself that it had been a proper long term rectification rather than a bog-up to sell.

My only comment would be "underneath welded up extensively to remove rust spots". Might be poorly worded, or could have had a really good and thorough restoration, but worth finding out exactly what was done and why.

Assuming that checks out, allow a grand at least for the service and belts that are due (bound to need a water pump and timing chain and you'll have peace of mind for years) and it could be a bargain.

Paul, you might know this. As a 1991/H I would have expected to see this car with a bridge spoiler. My '90 build, '91 reg has one. Is the transition perhaps less clear-cut than that?

I'm not saying it wont be good value ( or sell quickly) as i bet it does ! but he mentions the belts are due ( or possibly overdue ) so thats 2900 straight away to be safe, not to mention a pump. I'd definately want it throughly checked re the 'welded up extensively' though as why did it rot so much, just as why did the top end go ?. I suspect its one of those that should definately be properly checked first by a specialist and 'may' end up a bargain but as its cheap someone will take a risk and snap it up quick without bothering [;)]

Depressingly good value. The value of 944's is clearly still on a slide ...

Comments about rust would worry me tho'.

AKAIK the bridge spoiler was fitted from mid H-reg. Registration date doesn't mean a lot, as with the recession and the fact that the cars were ageing by 1990-plus they weren't selling fast. Plenty will have been sitting in a dealer for some months before getting registered, so you might find a bridge spoiler on a car registered earlier than another with a proper ([;)]) spoiler.

There are a couple of k-reg cars out there registered later than the first 968s.They must have been very heavily discounted!

Looks good to me. If that metalwork is documented and a current inspection says that the known rot-spots are OK, I'd tuck £2250 in my wallet and haggle him to that. Nice one! belts etc are a given start up price for just about any 944 unless you have cast iron proof of recent renewal. Only other cost to factor in then would be the head gasket.

Looks decent to me also.. Lots of work done to keep it going so it's certainly not a car that has been bought to flip..

I would say the usual inspections and haggle will see a nice car out of it..

The ad might be poorly laid out but it's mentioning all the right things for a 20 year old car with average mileage.

Apart from the 'needs belts' comment it sounds like a looked after example that's had money spent on all the known problems at this age - rust, fuel lines, top end rebuild, gearbox etc. Shame it doesn't mention if the clutch was changed whilst the box was replaced 15k ago

Schoolboy error to leave the 4 year old date date on the pictures though :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I think it looks good value. One point though, I wouldn't view it unless I was prepared to pay the asking price. The guys says "no offers". I'd be inclined to tell someone to "beat it" if I purposely wrote "no offers" and someone rolled up and made an offer. Just me. Perhaps I'm being naive? [8|]

be wary of not showing current photos.
Where in N Yorks ?, if anyone interested I could go and have a quick look as I live in Ripon,N Yorks.

Nick [:D]

North Yorks is a big place and a lot of coast line, mine came from Saltburn way and needed some floor welding, lot of salt in the air, a very thorough inspection should clear up whats been done though

If thats a genuine Lotus Cortina Mk1 I wouldnt show it on a photo like that.

Anyone "interested" in it would come and look at the Porker to find out how and where he kept it!
