lighting query

Thanks for that Oli.

I ordered the night breaker H3's for the bumber lights so will see how I feel about the result before trying the solution you suggested.

Unfortunetely 944's use a very old fashioned type of headlight - the glass its self aims the light beam. It allows quite a lot of light to escape, and if you fit brighter bulbs you can blind oncoming traffic no matter how well aligned the lamps are.

A good upgrade would be to fit some 7" round lamps that use the rear reflector surface to aim the light (you can usually spot these as the glass is completely clear).

The ultimate upgrade would be to fit projectors like nearly all modern cars have. A guy in the US did this to his 944 and the results were amazing.

Unfortunately for us when buying headlights or projectors we have to get RHD versions so the light pattern is aimed to the nearside. This means any US or european site selling headlamps or projectors is out of the question.

Thanks. I think I'm going to need to increase the amount that I charge PCGB for those articles - they do take some time to do!

McNulters, I hate you.

ETA: Just added an extra line in at the end of the article in question. Maybe that'll make up for the shortfall!

944 lamps are indeed a bit rubbish after modern cars, though mine yesterday were really dirty so a quick wipe helped.

Mine has the headlamp washers but they dont appear to be working, any ideas on the best way to fix them, do they just pull water from the normal washer resevoir ? I beleive if fitted they must work for the MOT nowadays ?

MOT thing - I don't think so. My tester has never tested mine (but he is quite relaxed about details ... [;)] )

Yes, it does pull water from the windscreen wash reservoir, but uses a separate pump. Check that that pump is working. (That pump is hidden down low, at the bottom of the bottle behind the O/S headlight, and if the wiring wriggles 'round to the wrong place then the headlight can pull the plug off when it raises. Have a good look - you may just find that the plug needs pushing back onto the motor.)
