Lighting Problems

I have an 82 924 having just got it running after almost a year the head lights are not playing the game.

The problem is : with the light on dipped I have headlights and side lights, when I pull on the main beam my headlights go out but me lower side lights get a lot brighter.

I assume that there are driving lights in the lower lights so thats not much of an issue but I also need Main beam so the car will pass MOT.

Any Ideas?, anyone with a wiring diagram and fuse/relay diagram?

All help appreciated.

Check the headlamp bulbs themselves
check for broken wires where they bend
check the plugs for corrosion
check fuses
The fact that the driving lights illuminate means that power is being sent to the left hand high beam filament at least, even if it doesn't arrive, as the signal for the driving light relay comes from the left hand high beam wire at the fuse box end; if they were foglamps, the signal would come from the left hand low beam

All bulbs and wires are intact, I think the problem comes from around the fuse box area.

I had (have) a problem with one of my main beams some time ago. Found out it was the wiring between fuses and light. Other side was okay. Being a lazy swine I ran a length of wire from the good side and fed the non-working side with that. It is still working to this day. If you do the same ensure than the wire you connect into the system doesn't foul the headlight pop-up mechanism as you could end up with the wire wrapped around it. Mine goes across from one to the other under the badge panel.
You could use this as a temporary fix to get through the MOT.
Hope this helps.

Cheers,
