Im assuming youve tried more than just the lighter plugged in for a test ? Phone etc !

Subsidiary question: The central locking button should be press to lock, press to unlock right? Mine you can press to lock, but you have to use the door handle to unlock. This also seems to be true of the rear windscreen heater, the heated seats and the PSM off switch. In all cases you can push to on (or off in the PSM case) but not the other way around. This is a fault right?

To Scouser: When you say pull the wires do you mean from the back? After taking the console off?

Yes. I can pull my cig lighter out of its socket using a plastic blade without removing the console.
I had to replace my lighter as it was shorted out within the lighter unit itself. I replaced it and it
did the trick. It used to blow fuses. To test it, i pulled the wires and turned on the ignition and the fuse didn't blow.
So had to be the cig lighter itself. This may not be the case for you but worth a try.

I just noticed your mods site where you have an iPod fitment. Can you direct me to where you got that done? I'm still using one of those plug in tape thingies

I actually pulled the "socket" part out of the console. In the pic, if you stick a flat butter knife or plastic blade behind the panel that the cig lighter is in, it will pop the little panel out with the cig lighter attached. I had to replace the socket.
You don't need to rip out your whole console.
The mod for the ipod involves buying a "Dension Ice Link" unit. See www.dension.com
You have to get the right one for your head unit. If you have the stock cdr220 then they have one for that but
I have a different one for my aftermarket Blaupunkt sat nav system.

Use a butter knife.....not a screw driver and be careful not to shove it in so far that it touches the switch terminals.
It should just pop out with little resistance.
Gee, what we do for our mates
