LED Door lock pin

Gentlefolk,

Can any-one advise me how the door lock pin should be held in place? If I try and pull my passenger-side on up, it comes out of the door card, rather than unlocking the door. It doesn't appear to be broken, but doen't really appear to have any proper fixing either.

Id overlooked that, as it was only in the title. To the best of my knowledge LED locking buttons arent original parts, but as locking buttons generally screw on, then Id expect those to too; especially considering that the 944 has provision for this.
 
Hmmm... In that case, I suspect that mine is in two parts, possibly not by design! The inside of the bottom is probably something like 6mm bore, and is "shaped - rather like the push-fit of the repeater bulb-holder.
 
The door card is retained by hooking over the top lip, the button and push clips all around the lower circumference. The speaker cover and map bin come off easily and the door handle is secured by three screws, not all of which go straight in. The handle stays attached to the door card with a captive bolt which hold the metal handle load bearer. The membrane usually comes away if youre careful: then itll all become clear...
 
I think the later cars had the led pins - mine does. AFAIK they only serve to indicate the door is locked or unlocked - but you can't unlock the door by pulling up on them (which is why they get broken) - that's what I was told @ ph some years back. The central locking can be actuated by the switch in front of the gear lever.
 
Earlier ones are screw on, later ones aren't.

The later ones have rubbish little plastic catches on the bottom that, if your pin just lifts off without moving the lock, have snapped off.

Secondhand parts aren't an option because if they aren't broken now they will be when you attempt to take them off (I know this from trying to get them off car after car at Douglas Valley as they told me any I can remove intact I could have for free). New ones are (or were about a year ago) expensive for what they are and you can't use the door pin to unlock the door anyway as they're so weak.

I'd just find a suitable method of attaching the ones you have (mine are jammed on rather than glued on so I can remove them to get to the LED if needs be) then not use them to unlock the doors.

Sorry. I had a relatively late 944 which had screw ons, as did my 968.

Mine is a 1991 S2 with the clip/push on type but I'm not sure what had what when - I looked at the LED pins on 928s hoping to interchange them and they all seemed to be screw on type.
 
I glued mine back together and it has been fine.
The bottom half of the pin does screw on so you can fit standard non LED pins but they do need to be longer than the early ones otherwise if the locking system fails you cannot pull the pin up to open the door. Which can be a pain on the passenger side.
