leather seat repairs - contacts needed

You know that bit in the ad that always says "slight damage to driver's bolster, easy repair, I've been quoted 50p..."

well....

I want to get this done before I sell my sports seats. I reckon they will sell much better once fixed. The trimmer that ph sportscars use hasn't got any linen leather, & says he can't do it. I did make a speculative enquiry to the connolly guys over in Warrington, but they are really better used for a major overhaul

As you can see, the leather has a small hole, & the piping is damaged. The leather has worn very thin in that area. I'm guessing the whole bolster piece needs changing.

Any recommendations for a trimmer close to Derby (or possibly manchester or London)

Thanks

Ed

I can recommend a good one near Bracknell (which isn't THAT far from London). http://www.coachtrimmer.com/ Don't be fooled by the dull website. He did a good job on replacing the bolsters on my driver's seat.

Ed, ask PH for Vaughn's and Gary Hubbard's telephone numbers. Gary will probably cheaper now and his work is first rate. Theyre both based in Loughborough. As an example GH quoted me £80 to replace one leather panel on a bolster, leaving the colouring to me.

I spoke to Gary - he's the one who said he couldn't do it as he doesn't have the right leather

is Vaughn the chap who had the camper van?

I found a mobile bloke in derby, I have to send him a pic of mine. which I am going to do tomorrow.

Ive found that Gary comes and goes. One day he is helpful and the next he says he cant quote without seeing it.

As Gary told me, he was taught by his father who also taught Vaughns brother. Vaughns brother taught Vaughn when he worked for him and it was during this time that Vaughn did a lot for PH and bits for me. In the mean time Vaughn has started his own business, and become successful and quite well known. I dont know whether he has a bus, but I have heard that he / his work is frequently seen on on car focussed television and I believe that camper interiors and Porsche seats are his speciality.

Vaughns certainly a more affable fellow and I be extremely surprised if he couldnt help. I will sort out his number for you. IIRC Gary was quite difficult when I asked him about some similar leather, as he prefers to work with the later style cheaper seats - but I was only following up a quote hed already given me, the wally.

he can't do linen leather either [:(]

That explains why he quoted me for undyed leather Ed! Its relatively easily home coloured. Theres a user here (fast eddie or similar) who could probably talk you through a fill and re-colour on what youve got too, although the piping would still be spoiled.

I will be colouring my own leather repair.

I had a repair done by Classic car services Leicester,Bolster and piping, looks totally factory,Linen leather on my black turbo.
Nice people, small family company, ask for Steve.

Classic car services Leicester

Steve quoted me £150 plus vat for the repair to my bolster in correct coloured material.

That's quite a lot - certainly more than I was expecting

Let me know how you get on with the other people

Not too unreasonable in my opinion, I had a seat repaired like this in my mx5 and it was £100 (I supplied the material)

It will look like new though,I had both my seats done by Classic car services, when they strip the seats they check the cushioning and can replace that, the Leather is replaced and the piping aswell, they have dye made up by a specialist finisher local to them matched to your car and all I can say is anyone wanting as new drivers and passenger seats would not be disappointed, its like a retrim fror comparative peanuts, not a dodgy temporary repair.honest it's awsome.

Thing is Mark, I just want to fix the seat up then sell the pair... If I was keeping them, then I'd have no problem in sinking some cash into the seats.

I'm trying to explore that classic myth in the for sale ads claiming that these seats can be repaired cheaply (that line that always appears just below the one that says "galvanized so no rust" [8|] )
