Le Mans Classic

I'm still booked to camp with a group of guys from here but I realise that since being Porsche less for a few months I've forgotten to check here for updates.

So who is still going and how are you getting there. I will try and be sensible convoying down this time (rather than burning off into the distance and meeting you there) because I'm likely to be going as 4 in 1 car and all going well this may be a car I'm running in.

Bloody Hell Ben, thought you had emigrated, did you book with first tickets th Mike Moores party ? as i suspect you did, we are camping at Kartin Nord with the DDK lot and have a few cars going down. PM Me with your contact number as i may not have it on my new phone ? we will have a chat, looking to be on the 12.50 ferry Dover / Calais Thursday 12.50 with P & O. An overnight in Rouen before saddling up and off to LM Friday AM. Jim.
 
You guys are making me very jealous, as Ben knows, I had hoped to join you guys but knew it was very unlikely that I'd have the car back on the road in time, alas I was right. Still have a great time guys and hopefully I'll be able to join you next year. Have fun Pete
 
Nope still here and yes booked to the Nick Moore party. It will be good to catch up with a few old faces. Much has changed in my life since last time :) I will book that ferry now and pm you my number again. Will the overnight spot be as beautifully scenic as I remember ;)
 
12.50 Ben P&O Thursday 5th, you are with us i will call you, the overnight is in Rouen this year but chill as Mike has pre booked rooms in a F1, we will need to meet Thursday morning we are stopping over at a Travelodge in MK, we are meeting Copperman (Ed) on the M20 South Mimms. How much do Formule 1s cost now Jim? I used to use them when they cost about FF120 a night, which was around £14. You could move up to an Etap with your own bathroom for a few pounds more and I havent used an F1 for years. I suspect that neither are as cheap as they used to be, though. Simon

I certainly hope so as in previous years the drive down has certainly been of the er spirited type, I do recall one year while following Tony(944turbo) and Paul(diver944) I took the wrong exit at a roundabout with the 993 following behind doing the same. After a very dodgy u-turn in front of I hasten to add a police car I quickly found the correct exit. I then floored it leaving the poor 993 struggling behind, that is still today the fastest I've driven the car, no idea of speed as I ran out of speedo long before lifting off the throttle which never stopped accelerating with the needle happily bouncing of full speed, I soon caught up with the lead car which wasn't exactly hanging around now was it Paul?......:) Fun days but not possible today, back then penalties if gained didn't carry across to the UK, mind you you could still get a hefty fine or worse loose the car...:( Pete

All I remember was having to lift off long enough for the slower red Turbo to catch up [:D] ...and then having to pull over and stop long enough for cheese, bread and coffee whilst we all waited for your mates 993 :ROFLMAO: Happy days and we really must do it again at some point when all of our cars are back on the road at the same time

I agree Paul, we must do it again, perhaps we should get together at some point in the future and make plans, I have to say the 4 occasions that I've been to Le Mans will remain with me forever, fun times indeed...:) Pete

Yes otherwise it tends to result in open wallet surgery :)

We did get to keep the cars though, which they could apparently have taken for less.
 
Yes it was a long wait after lifting off but then I recall we were running quite quickly before the lift off :) the 250 cars have a 180mph speedo so we didn't go off the clock - we did exercise the upper reaches though. Looks painful Ben! They can ban you from driving in France as well - anyone else remember the orange lambo that the owners (smiling) mate was driving all week as the owner had been banned on the way down. The IFG decal made me smile.
