HELP[:D]

I have very little knowledge on suspension but I'm good at cleaning, painting and bolting back together.......

My plan was to fit my KWV3 and then take it to CofG and have it setup correctly.....how hard can it be[:D]

I took a wild guess at the torsion bar setting as CofG will index when the car gets there but I think I may have gone well to low[:mad:] I don't really want to drop it all again..

so my question is

1.is this setting too low ? spring plate horizontal
2.can I just keep turning the ring on the strut to raise it higher?
3.is the helper spring meant to me fully squashed as iin the picture?

I need to drive it 1/4 mile to get an MOT then onto a lorry over to CoG



 
I think you're too low.

I refreshed my rear axle over the weekend and now it looks like this. It sits at the same ride height of a std 968 CS. Helper springs are nowhere near as compressed as on yours.

I can only go by what I have seen on my car but it doesn't look too low to me, Chris at CG probably set mine even lower IIRC. Car looks great btw, is this going to be a concours show car?

KW instructions are to set TB to lowest position.

helper springs should be fully coil bound when the car is on the floor. when the body is raised they should start to expand pretty much immediately.

this is the setup that emc and promax recommended

I'm sure I am too low.......I'm happy to let Chris sort it but will I do any damge driving to the MOT? and will it pass? without geometry and such a low stance
 
I'd be surprised if the tyres don't rub against the wings... should be fine without wheel spacers though?
 
I think I'll go to CofG first on the transporter..... then drive to the MOT test.....I think that's legal[&:]
 
I've had a quick look at my car this morning - I reckon your suspension arm sits at about the same level as mine. Don't be tempted to set the ride height just with the coilovers - your torsion bars won't like it... The level of helper spring compression isn't really affecting anything when the main spring is unloaded so that's not the issue at the moment. See my post above for checking the helper springs when the car is on the floor.

I think your car will be lower than standard, but not race-car low - you can see some pics on my project thread of the ride height on mine.

Do you have a bit more adjustment on the spring plate to make the rear axle drop a bit lower (and increase ride height?) It looks set around the middle of the range.
 
I am not sure if it too low (bar scraping things on the floor!). Here is what my car is like on KWv3s:

So far I seem to have no rubbing issues :).
 
I am hoping to have KWV3's fitted by CofG over the summer so am wathcing this topic with interest. I certainly do not want to be as low as some of your track cars, but would like to be a bit lower than standard.
 
I guess it depends on what you're intending to use the car for, but for track use;

The helper springs should be coil bound (Flat) when the car sits on level ground. But that can be affected by the how far the platforms have been screwed up or down.
The trick I used wad to set the torsion bars to be just coming in when the platforms were screwed right down to their lowest setting at the bottom of the KW's. then screwed up the platforms until the helpers were fully compressed, the ride height then was about right.

I'm riding about 5cm lower than standard now, and the handling is much improved.
 
My car is re-indexed and lowered and sitting on GAZ with no helper springs. Absolutely no issues with anything bottoming out, speed bumps are a pain though! I also have adjustable rear drop links, triangulation brackets on front ARB and polybushed front ARB. ARB's are standard M030. Also have a front strut brace. Car handles really well.

Good Idea edh I'll raise it has high as possible on the springplates[:)]

I think then I'll leave it to Chris to sort it, as long as I can drive it onto the trailer all is good

This will be daily driver (summer only) so I want it just slightly lower than stock.....if everything goes well I'll get the wheels on this weekend
 
Aye, good advice, at least Chris @ COG will not have to fight on with seized bolts [:D] good job you have done there, you will have to park the car on it's roof at any shows that you will be attending [:D]
