Key Problem HELP

the LED in my 996 key is permanently on (has been for 12 hours now) - anyone seen this? Is it fixable or do I need a replacement key?

Have you tried opening it up? Gently prize the case open and the transponer will plo out into your hand - the two microswitches are then easy to get to - you should then see whether one of them is jammed shut & can be carefully freed. Happened with my Boxster once.

If not - its £200+ for a new key (incl programming)!

very funny guys!!
but note: my finger is not sore, nor is there a button jammed nor does not seem possible to open (no obvious way to do this - looks like a sealed unit)

amazingly, the LED is still on after 32 hours (battery still good then...) amd I am using the sapre key for now...

Yes, it will open! Take the key off the keyring, it will then split into two ' clamshell' halves (use a small narrow blade screwdriver) - the rubber seal will also be there & will need to be positioned when you clip it all back together again. The battery will be visible (a standard lithium remote battery) and the transponder will pop out.

If I had a digital camera I would take mine apart & send you a piccie!

Tony
you are correct! Managed to split the two halves - removing/replacing the battery does not fix so I guess its an electrical fault (no reset button!!); at least the LED is off now so I just have a non-remote spare...
thanks
