Just Purchased Carrera 2 (2002 model) and suspect Battery may have past its sell by date.

My recently bought Carrera 2 I think has a Battery presumed "Aged" - I've charged the battery out of the car a couple of times with a brand new C-TEK 5 charger and although after say 5 hours or so stops a Step 7 (fully charged) it will not however go to step 8 (pulse/maintenance)
I think this may mean the battery may be aged and therefore may have to do the decent thing -- and buy a new Battery.
Any one out there recommend a great battery for the replacement. Much appreciated - Rederz

Thanks sws - That's interesting info you've just given to me on the c tek - I read the c tek manual many times and the c-tek web site but couldn't spot this specific info - what a pity, bought the new Bosch S5 this afternoon from Euro Parts - Darlington - £115.20 (inc VAT). I'll still be using the c tek of course but at least I'll know now about the 10 day lag for pulse mode. I still think the old battery was suspect and I'm satisfied now that I have a really powerful battery in the 996 - and its a Bosch !
 
No problem, also , once a year, you should put it on a recond cycle, just to give the battery a shake up.
Why don't you do this to your old battery , and then you've got a spare, although by the sounds of it you won't need it for a long time. The battery on my Cayman is 6 years old, and no problems , so far,
but I do use the C tek every time it's not going to be used for more than a week.

sws - thanks again - I'll do that, not a bad thing having a spare battery- I'll see how it looks after a recond cycle. One other thing you may help me with re the c-tek . I plan to attach the c tek via the comfort charger and into the cigarette lighter point on the front dash. The 996 is always (when not in use)stored in my integral garage, a cosy place, very dry and secure. I intend to keep the car unlocked in here, alarm off and with the drivers window slightly open to accommodate the cable for the c tek, which will be placed on the foot well. Is this the right procedure do you think ? also my radio panel has a flashing light when key is removed - do you think I should remove this panel while in storage/c -tek mode?
