JMG - get well soon

I was supposed to go to Jon Mitchells Garage in Christchurch yesterday to take my 944 to the rolling road for a final set-up and collection. But I had a call in the morning saying that the mechanic working on my car, Jamie, had been brutally attacked/mugged over the weekend and was in intensive care. I don't know the full story, but obviously it sounds very nasty and my best wishes go to him. I sincerely hope it's not as bad as it sounds and that he makes a full recovery.

And if that wasn't enough Jon himself is not around at the moment - a bad leg stoping him working (or even getting to the garage).

So, from the 944 community to all concerned at JMG - get well soon.

Blimey that is bad news. Please pass on my best to Jamie as well - that shouldn't be allowed to happen to anyone.

Regards

Jamie ISTR is pretty much the main man at JMG when it comes to the nitty gritty working on cars bit. Send him my regards as well Ewan if your down that way.

They do seem to have more than their fair share of bad luck. I was thinking of taking my Turbo there for some tuning but it's just too far away and I seem to have read of several cars disappearing for months on end when they have personal problems. How is your car running now Ewan and what did you have done?

The latest news I have is that my car is now running. I dropped it off in April for a new head gasket and some power upgrades, and given that I've still not got it back the conclusion would have to be that they are not the quickest garage in the world...

Apparently everything is now finished and we are due to go to the rolling road on Wednesday for power verification tests and a final hand over. Which sounds great, but, previous rolling road appointments have been made and cancelled for a variety of reasons over the last few weeks, so I'm not holding my breath.

My other Porsche is looked after by Northway in Reading, and they do a service while I wait. Not something I would try at JMG!!!

Given the time you have waited for the car to be returned (and in view of the fact they weren't necessary preparing it for a trip into space?), I would hope they are VERY generous with a discount from their standard fees. You've missed out on the summer driving and 6 months insurance and road tax perhaps. I hope it's worth it and you are delighted.

To be fair that short wait is better than average in my experiencce but no one seems to be able to build a 944 like Jon/Simon. Their cars all seem to have that extra power edge compared with similar setups. Just don't wreck it. I saw too many cars go out of Jon's while my car was there only to come back in unusual shapes to be broken for parts a few months later!

I'm not convinced that jmg's idea of "next Wednesday" is the same as mine! So no, apparently they'll be no dyno charts to post on here tomorrow. But I am promised we're getting close - apparently Jon doesn't want to go to the rolling road until he is absolutely convinced that all is spot on and that the results will be impressive.

After all this wait, it had better be pretty darn quick and low on lag.

By the way, Jamie is out of hospital and back in the garage - just in time to give my car a jolly good polish before the handback!
