Jammed sunroof

Hi,

The sunroof on my 968 is stuck in the open position. That is to say I can replace the lift-out panel and it lies flat in the recess but I can't engage the locking mechanism on the rear edge. The curved locking rail wont extend out.

When I press the rocker switch to the close sunroof position the mechanism makes the sound of the motor winding against the rack on the locking rails (end of travel). When I press the switch to the open position, silence. It seems I can't get the curved locking rails to extend out, engage the lip on the sunroof and then drag it back down. (At least that's how I seem to remember it working, so long since we've had decent sunshine!).

Any help appreciated.

At the front of the sunroof there is a triangular piece of metal (centre of sunroof inside car) The triangle switches a micro switch in the roof. You need to ensure that the triangle is touching the micro switch to re-engage the mechanism. you can just touch the triangle flap with a screw driver and you should be able to activate the mechanism.

Thanks PJS. I've got it working again but am not sure exactly how. It may well be that during subsequent driving the triangle jiggled back into place and activated the micro switch. However the combinations of ignition switch position and button activation is a bit eclectic to say the least. For example; in ignition position 1 I can now get the sunroof open (de-couple) but if I want to immediately close it I have to turn the ignition off and then return it to ignition position 1 to perform the reverse closing function. Its all kind of weird and the manual doesn't really help to identify the sequence. Still, I'll put it down to being one of those idiosyncratic characteristics that imbues the car with character. If anyone does actually have any details of the logic map for sun-roof operation I'd be interested to understand it.

Thanks in any event.

Just had similar problem.
Try here http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/body-03.htm.

Mate of mine, very good on electrics which I'm not, spent ages trying to trace back the problem from motor until he decided it was at the front end. No diagram or manual. I mentioned that a week or so ago there was something on the forum about micro switches that I'd read and we found it. Five minutes later after bypassing the switch everything was good[:)]
He called me a few names re my age and memory[:D]
I said he could have an extra drink on Saturday[;)]

Cheers
Dave
